Whistiling

I have been having this whisteling sound going on whenever i hit the gas for a while now. I had the car in park and revved engine and you dont hear it. I thought it was a leak in the lines somewhere but its not. Thhis weekend i got new tires. i thought it was the tires cause same day i got em i didnt hear anything else. Now this morning i let my wife drop me off . When she pulled off i heard the sound and it was louder !!! i dont know whats going on. I know that i need a new right tie-rod. COuld this be the culprit? I havent been hearing this sound until recently. I dont hear it when parked only when driving and i hit the gas when i release the gas again its fine. When i hit it from astop sign or a light you hear it. I posted before and no one was able to help me. SomeOne help!!!

Also I need new Struts and springs. Can i replace these with lowering springs? Or do you need regular springs and then lowering springs?

my car's making the "turbo" noise too, I checked mine and it turned out that it had broken exhaust manifold bolts(a common 3rd gen max problem), also, when you put the car in park and rev up the engine, do so progressively and slowly, also do from outside of the car, and not when you're sitting in it. If you rev it up too fast, you will not hear it, as it appear to only "whistle" at a certain engine RPM. As soon as you hear the noise, hold the speed and check to see where the noise is coming from. Also a thing to do is when the car's cold, use your finger and twist the exhaust manifold bolts around abit, it should not be loose, if it is, then you know what the problem is. Hope this had help you somewhat

ever since i put my cold air intake on I have the same whistlin you have, I think. I think its just from the force of the air wooshing through the cone filter compared to wooshin through a filter inside a box.

I dont think you can have more than 4 spings on your car?

lowering spings replace the stock ones and lower your car's hight, thats proly why they are called lowering spings cuz they are lower than stock ones.

Well i have messed with the air filter making it cai. but i put it back being that i didnt have an intake adapter.

The next thing is i did rev the engine from outside the car. (from the throttle). I have no idea what it could be. I doubt that its a maniflod stud cause it doesnt sound like the way stud breakage has been described. According to the descriptions the broken/loose studs are a constant noise not on the revving or movement of engine/car.

Thanks for the jokes. Was just wondering. Never "lowered" car before.

I will get the car to a shop hopefully this weekend, but it seems like everytime i decide to go do work on the car the noise doesnt appear. i mean i know it goes away and reapears but this happens all the time.

You don't have to go out and buy a intake adaptor. On the inside of your airbox, you'll notice a cone. Drill out the rivets that hold that on. Take it down to a machine shop and have them trim it down so a cone filter will fit. Get 4 new bolts and wala, cheaper intake adaptor than Ebay

Mine is a lot more than a whistle. I can hear my intake over the road and wind noise when I driving down the interstate. It's fun pulling up to a light, and everyone turning because hear all that air being sucked in...

Outside air rushes in u engine compartment as u drive. The temp there is just about the same as u put hand out the win... Any car any where = CAI = all the time... except when parked.
Stock cars are choked because of noise etc. If thats not problem, drilling 4-6 one inch holes to filterbox before filter will give all Cold Air in the stock engine ever can use... (Damping the mod box will kill reindeer shrieks and give out only bass murmur). Nice and cheap. But of course better filters are better...

--------------------------------------------------

aziphrale problem: your problem is driving related if the noise does not come while parked [brilliant diag, eh?]. Now can it the be ex seals or any other engine problem? I bet no, probably ? tranny as u hear it as your car leaves. Wheels ? related, maybe but doubt. Or you have new squirrels in the ex pipe like someone just yesterday eating her maxima wires...

I diagnosed it to my tie rod. i have a rebuilt tranny. I seriously doubt that it is the transmission or the engine. Thats why i think that its the wheel. because it doesnt happen all the time and i see that it happens more when i go from a flat punch. The rod is probably whats making the sound. I am trying to go home early to see if i can get it fixed. Ill let you know if that fixes the problem.

So i found out what the real problem was. I was wrong it wasnt the tie-rod. It was in fact a exhaust problem (not the studs). There was a crack at the top of the pipe that runs under the car. thats why when i went under the car the last couple of times looking for it. i couldnt find it. I thank everyone for all of there help in this issue. Should have listend to you guys a long time ago. now to order my new Y pipe. heheh
