Springs/Shocks

Ok so im replacing the suspension on the MAX this month along with a Rear drum>Disk conversion. The conversion looks straight foward and relatively simple, but what are some spring/shocks that will make a smooth ride, I also want to this this with as little funds as possible. so no $1,000 shock/spings. but quality should be an issue.

what type of shock/springs combo should I consider for a smooth ride? dont want something that feels like my Springs are shot.

If smooth ride is all you care about, stay stock. If you want a performace spring that still rides decently, look into Eibachs.

why would you want to replace the springs? Are you really looking for a smooth ride, or better performance without too much harshness? Give us more info and we can help ya out better. If comfort is your goal stay stock like they have said, specially since u have gxe springs the car was made with comfort in mind.

well I think the shocks went first, because after a hill or a bump the car was like super bouncy. Then a week later the spings must have gone too becuase now its super hard and realy bouncy at the same time,( hard to explain), like it hits a bump and feels like shocks bottom out and then the spings kick in and makes it bouncy.

im sure shocks are bad but does that mean my spring are bad too? was thinking about just replacing everthing and upgrading wile im at it, SO performance without too much harshness is what im after, what would you recomend?

Same Question Here....
I'm looking for the Drop, but more importantly the Performance with least Harshness. From what I've been reading, it seems Eibach/Tokico combo is the way to go. TRUE of FALSE???? or Is there a better combo?

I'm running the Eibach/Tokico setup and I've been pretty happy so far. I didn't really want to drop the car any, but I did want a stiffer spring and the Eibach's only drop it like 1.2". I like the handling, but there are those times I'd like the smoothness of stock (like on interstates with the gaps every 2 seconds). I miss having a little more ground clearance (no more field driving), but the adjustable setup was not an option for me. If I could have found a stiffer spring and kept the stock height I definately would have gone that route. I think I ended up spending like $500 altogether for the shocks, springs and boots, and installed them all myself. All in all, I think it was money well spent.

Don't go with Suspension Technique springs! I hate them! lol Performance for these is so much bs. The drop is real nice, but I too at times wish that I was at stock height too. No more country road rally racing! lol Every f*cking bump or rock or anything on the road, trust me I feel it! You should see my try to pull in my driveway. I have to go at it at a 80 degree angle at about 2 or 3 mph!! lol And I'm even lucky if I don't bottom out! I think I'm going to be switching up to Eibach soon. My KYB GR-2 struts on the other hand are great. Haven't had any problems with them at all and I've loved them. Just have hated the springs for forever! lol Just my $.02

Springs generally don't go bad and should last the life of the car as long as they're not damaged. So you don't have to replace the springs, but if you want to, just be sure you're okay with the trade-offs that come with lowering springs. All lowering springs are stiffer (some less, some more) and reduce suspension travel, so none are going to ride smooth as stock... I can't remember off the top of my head which spring is supposed to be most comfortable, but then again opinions vary...

I replaced my front with KYB GR-2's and some used SE springs this past summer and really like the setup.

My stock front struts were absolutely SHOT!

The KYB GR-2's are pretty cheap (well, compared to some of the options). I'm sure going to SE springs made an improvement as well.

Ride quality is excellent and I didn't notice any drop. This is my daily driver so I didn't want a jarring and slammed suspension. (plus I already have a car for the twisties).

Also consider new strut mounts and boots while you are in there.

I posted some quick impressions here:
