High Idle...

Hey all...when I started my 91 Max this morning the idle shot up to like 1500rpm's and seemed to be trying to go higher! I let it run like that for a few minutes assuming that once the engine warmed a little, the idle would drop back down gradually to the normal idle (~900rpms) but it didn't! I had to switch my shifter into reverse to force the idle to drop and then put it back into park. After I put it in Park, it shot up again to 1500rpms, but then dropped down slowly to normal....What's going on?!?! I supposedly just had a tune-up done a few weeks back where they supposedly "tuned my engine"..so why did this happen...I never saw it idle that high in Park out of the entire 2 years I owned her.. It was almost as if I was resting my foot on the gas pedal slightly, but I wasn't.
p.s. it wasn't even all that cold out this a.m. so there really was no need for it to even idle that high to get warm
Thanks everyone in advance for your insight!

sounds like IACV acting up or the air cut valve is not opening/closing correctly.

I dunno what "astronomix $um" means, but whatever I paid most certainly was not for nothing. I know and trust my mechanic...even though at times they can be somewhat highly priced, but u gotta expect that. They have to make their money too! I dont mind paying them a lil more once in awhile anyway cause most of the time they tell me how to fix stuff on my own! Now what garage will do that and cheat themselves out of cash?? There are some, but not many..
Thanks for the other info on what to check and the great link with pics. You guys on maxima.org are AWESOME!!!

Hey. Yurre RRRrright. "maxima.org = AWESOME!!!"

Btw. Maybe I was too hard on u serviceman, all honor to him.

My experiences on service shops (I am alive by miracle) are so bad that... well never mind. but just read automagazine test comparisons how much is done at dealer maintenance: customers are billed 100%, but things done 50% at best, Thats dealers, not any specific. And thats only on jobs listed, what about those age dependent hidden ones? Wait till u car stops, engine drops...

Trusted mechanic. Yess!!! I know one in scandinavia, is it one in 15million people or?

How about starting a trusted mech list...

The Nissan dealership we went to was so ridiculous with their prices. We had a brand new throttle body that we had put on because the RPMs were at 3000 at idle. They told us the reset didn’t work after paying $125 just to reset it. They then offered to sell one to us for $800 and that was just for the part. They charged us $12 for a pair of latex gloves that they wore, $10 for the blue shop towels they used to wipe their greasy hands on, plus other stupid miscellaneous charges. That should be illegal for charging things like that.
