heat takes seemingly too long to get warm

I have had both the heater core and thermostat changed out and so the heat is pretty good, but it seems like it takes awhile to get going. Like you know how the more your foot is on the pedal, the faster all the circulation is going, the hotter it gets.....well to me it seems as I have to drive for awhile to get the heat going and I'm not sure why. Even with having a remote start on, it doesn't warm up that fast.

I have never bled it(the coolant I'm guessing) and I think the only times it has been was when the shop replaced stuff. Should I try bleeding it? How and will it make a difference to bleed it and what do you mean 39" can?

There is a coolant purge valve on the intake. Check out a Chilton or Haynes manual and it will tell you how to do it. Also, check the coolant level, if low, it could cause the problem you discribe....

Does the engine take alot longer to warm up? You won't get warm air until you warm the engine. Unless you use the ac/defrost set on warm.

39" car.

that's how high you are supposed to raise the front end with the car running and the rad cap off, in order to properly bleed the system

I took my 94 to the dealership and I had the same problem, however they said that it is very rare for the heater core to go bad. I had them service my lines. All they did was bleed the coolant lines and my heat works allot better. It doesn't take as long as it use to, however I have an electric start and I let my car warm up with the heat off for at least 10 minutes before I leave and that does the trick. It only coast me $65.00 at the dealership. Hope this helps.

Could be the valve that controls when/how the water flows into the heator core. Could be stuck/malfunctioning.

I had a similar issue with my 91, except it didnt neccesarily take along time to warm up and have the heat work. What happened with mine is:

I would drive the car for awhile (at least 10-20minutes) so the engine was definitely warm, and the heat would be working during that time too - but then for some odd reason, the heater would start pumping out cool air (the thermostat was set all the way in the red which is obviously the hottest it can go)..but the air would just turn cold for no apparent reason - then become warmer again a few minutes later (or after shutting it off for awhile and turning the fan back on).

The solution: I had a tune-up done about 2 or 3 weeks ago in which I also had the mechanic flush and fill the radiator - My heat has been working great and is back to its normal, HOT self all the time!!! Must have just been low coolant...
