I have a problem!!!!!!!!!!

Well, a few days ago, I notice my RPM gauge needle was sitting alittle high when car is on & normal idle. Didn't think anything of it since the engine was still idling normally, but now as soon as I turn the key, the needle justs about 1.5 RPM's without the engine turning over. How can I correct this??? The car is driving sweet, so I think its just sumthing in the gauge(I hope its just that!). Any advice would be greatly helpful
