5 speed swap COMPLETE.. BUT!

The tranny makes a whining/"grr"ing sound. It does it whenever the clutch pedal is not depressed, even in neutral. If it makes any difference, the gear oil in there is COastal 80w-90. The jug says it's for gl3, gl4, and gl5.

Is the tranny toast, did I do something wrong, or is it bad gear oil?

Also, how are you supposed to wire up the neutral saftey switch? I did it wrong and it only starts in reverse, which obviously wont do.

Also also, I neglected that half-moon plate thing between the engine and tranny becasue I was getting frustrated and couldnt fine it, stupid I know. The plate that goes all the way around, behind the flywheel, is there. Could that be making the tranny at somewhat of an angle causing the noise?

the noise is bad input shaft bearing all 4 of my trans have had them go bad or were already bad when i installed them. it has nothing to do with the trans not being lined up

how loud is the noise. if it can barly be heard then youll proboly be fine for awhile but if its rteally bad id suggest replacing the bearings or having the trans rebiult

It sems fairly bad. Is it hard to replace them yourself? I may just go pick up another tranny this week and put it in next weekend.

couldnt it be the throw out bearing if its just sitting there making the noise while idling?

honestly I dont know but I thought it can make a noise like that as well.

well, it dosnt make the noise when I press in the clutch is the thing.

Will I be risking anything driving it to school for a few days like this?

May also be worth noting that the input shaft had no noticable play before I put the tranny in.

my input shaft didnt have any play either but it also makes the noise. althpought my old trans had alot of play when i pulled it but i havnt taken it apart yet

bingo on the Throw out bearing it would make noise when you press the clutch in and this is the exact oppisite

youll be fine driving it to school like i said as long as its not really loud you should be fine for a long time

the problem with getting another junkyard tranny is that theres a good chance it will have the same problem so thats your own risk id be better to just replace the bearing since its like only 30 or 40$

as far as what press you would need one like this

they go for 125$ here http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=33497

or take the input shaft to a trans shop and have them do it

Is there a write-up anywhere for the 5spd swap? I'm in the process of finding a donor car right now, and when I do(and when this snow melts!) I'm going to have at it.. would really like the help of a write-up.
