4th gen engine swap???

Hi there, I am wondering if it is possible to put the 4th gen engine in this car??? I have an extra 97 maxima motor sittin around, and the local newspaper had an ad for a 93 se w/ hole in block.. free..... 120,000 original miles. his daughter ran it outta oil, and never changed eversince she started driving it about 12,000 miles ago, by what he said over the phone.... I looked all over the 3rd gen forum but found nuthing and pretty tired of looking... Or what swap is good for these 3rd gen maxima's.... So please any help would be good help....

Thank You
everyone

Hi,

if you want to swap a engine in to a se for the 92-94 car,

then go for the jdm ve engine,

that is your best option,

or find another ve in the junkyard that has low miles and swap that in,

you can, if you think you can fab up mounts and make the tranny/axles/etc work.

your somewhat local too so it would be cool to see, however it is kind of one of those things where if you have to ask, its probably not going to happen :-/

all maxima engines and trannys are interchangable between all years.

jeez... havin the engine sitting around and being able to get a free 3rd gen i'd try it.

if you have some mechanical skill i'm sure you could figure it out. you'd most likely have to do a custom crossmember or at the least custom motor mounts. then just grab a cheap tranny and throw it all together.

the most difficult part would be wiring but like i said, if you have the ability to do this stuff its feasable. plus, being able to get the car for free and already having the engine will cut the costs of the whole thing a lot.

Really though, the only VQ I would put in my car is the 35, and that is because it has a factory VI and VTC's and a larger stroke and bore (and I'm tired of the VTC's and 1 broken stud ). I wouldn't even bother swapping in a VQ30DE/DE-K :-/

Free is a very good price. If you have somewhere to put it, you could make money parting out the 3rd gen. Putting in the 4th gen engine really wouldn't be worth all of the time, money and trouble.

If the 3rd gen is a 5-speed, I would sell your 4th gen engine and buy a JDM VE engine. I got one from a place in Seattle for $900 and they said they would ship it to Oregon for $50, so I am sure they would ship it to Wenatchee. One year unlimited mile warranty. Just make sure the guy leaves the engine in the car, because you would be needing some of the parts to swap on to the JDM engine. Oh, and if it is an AT, free is still a good price, but I would consider a 5-speed swap.

well i take it as no one has done it yet.. in that case i will do the stock motor swap.. no need to waste my 4th gen engine on something that is a big "IF".. I have a 96 and a 97 maxima.. Mine is the 96 and wifes is a 97.. That is why i have a spare motor sitting around... Just incase you know.. 100 shot of Zex wet kit loves eating motors alive.... But not maxima's motor's.. they really seem to hold up pretty damn good... No problems yet.. and i have been running the zex for about 1 1/2 years.. But started with a 50 shot and kept on getting greedy...so now i am running 125 shot at that track 75 shot all the other time.. Well parting out this 93 may be a possibility.. and well thank you all for the info it helped out alot....

its been done, it is not an "IF"... they did use 3L VQ parts from a 5th gen though... so might be ever so slightly different...
