Cv Joint

I am having some trouble with a new cv joint that i am replacing on the drivers side. I just took the old cv joint out and can get the new cv joint in the transmission almost all the way leaving about 1 inch from being snug against the transmission. The joint doesnt want to go any further after that......I think its the metal ring on the end of the joint getting stuck in one of the last grooves but not sure.
Any special tools or advice to make this easier....

Nevermind, i just went downstairs and put the car in neutral, then wiggled it a bit more while pushing the joint into the transmission, worked like a charm!
