why didn't anyone tell me! ve and vg rear brakes arent the same.
 

well today I did my suspension swap (9 hours straight)..... and rear brake swap. (doh!)
-took all my suspension out of the vg, and put it in the ve... didn't expect any problems at all...until I got to the rears, OMG, I had both rear right assemblies off and trying to fit the caliper on the struts from my VG. after an hour of trying to convince myself there should be no problems.. I finally unbolted the caliper on both cars and swapped calipers... driving my self nuts.
-to make a long story short the other sides took me 45 min. and I have no e-brake on either car. (yet) the e-brake cables are different too... WHY
-i asked the max.org if I would have any problems with this swap and like 100 ppl said "nope should be fine"...or "everything is the same"
- I wana slap the a$$whole at Nissan that make the rear brake change from those years.

-at the end, everything looks good and torque to spec...just waiting for the sway bar links to snap off...

- my brain hurts I need some sleep.

- OH yeaH! i forgot to add i stripped out a single front strut mount bolt (ones of the three on top) dont ask me how i did it.. but the bolt first went all the way in and then when i was tourqing it just spun.. its on tight, but it wont tighten or lossen... im just going to leave it untill i see it move... that and hopeing the rear brakes will be fine on the VE is all that im thinking about now... its killin me

so you put GXE drums on a VE???

drums?!?! heck no... thats my point though
- it seems like all the rear 3rd gen calipers are the same.. but their not, i found out the hard way

Its not a VG/VE thing. After a certain date (10/90 if I am not mistaken), Nissan switched to a different rear brake setup. That info is all over the org and there are different part numbers for everything. Oh well.

why didn't you just remove the strut from the housing and put it on the VE, and vice versa?

The wheel bearings are different aswell, along with the rear caliper brackets, etc. Thats what the Jeffy/Matt rear BBK kit is based off of....

- how the hell do you warm a 5 spd up in the cold, with no e brake.... i can't start the car and go back inside, cuz my car will roll down the hill....lol (thats goin to suck).. i need to find some wheel chucks... aka bricks

no, just swap the brake cables over. it'll take you a couple of hours. very easy.

see my other thread on the forum titled "rear brake question" for all the info you need on that.

and I could have told you from experience that the early/late model brakes won't fit each other.

Nissan did it because the later models were easier to work on and safer on the parking brake cables than the early models. It was an improvement over time thing, not a "we're going to change this just to piss you off" thing.

ask internetautomart he should be able to give you the part numbers for the disk, if they are the same part #, then Yes, if different part #, then No.

your 2/94 is a bit off.. unless they started making 4th gens in February... wouldn't surprise me, but the '94 stuff is the same as the '93.

so did you go from drum to disc? is that correct?

he did disc to disc... just different disc age...

production date info was provided by brembo, autospec, aimco, bendix.
so although the changeover date is a bit early, maybe that was the model year change.
