Oil filter question

I was wondering if you can take your oil filter out while there is still oil in the car without losing too much oil. I did an oil change 2 days ago and i couldnt get the filter off and i had to get to work and yesterday i got a filter wrench so im all set. i was just wondering if i could do it now that the oil is all in there.

Well the whole pan isn't going to drain out, if that's what your'e worried about. I'd still have a pan underneath it though.... besides the oil that will come out, you should tip the filter into it before moving it far.... as I soon learned.

BTW. Changing the oil and not the filter is not a great idea. Now you have all that clean oil running though a dirty filter (thus making all the new oil dirty). Consider short changing this oil change.
