Ebay has them all day long, but I dont know about the quality though. I've seen some dual tips for as low as $20!! I never bought one of those cause I think it will be very loud and maybe poor quality.

Internetautomart has a nice looking one. You might have to dig through his site or send him a PM.

If anyone wants to buy my Magnaflow, I'd go in on one of those. This muffler has a great tone, but it's a little louder than I'm looking for (on the WSP pipes).

Is it loud? Can you get it with a 2.5" inlet? What brand is it?

I want something that looks and sounds almost stock.

Got 5th Gen Mufflers?

The 5th Gen stock mufflers work on our cars, and fit in nicely. A few of us have done it and are very happy with it. The 5th Gen is a variable chamber muffler (don't ask me what that means) which is very quiet at idle and city speeds, but opens up a little at higher rpms and WOT. I guess that's the variable chamber thing kicking in. The only difference is that the 3rd Gen has a center inlet and the 5th Gen has an off-center inlet, but any muffler shop can install a short s-bend to fit the 5th gen muffler onto the stock 3rd Gen catback. But it is VERY much like the stock 3rd Gen muffler (if I can remember that far ago) in that it is very quiet. It also has the dual tip, and I think (?) it is a 2.25 inlet. You might get lucky and find one from a junkyard for $40 or on the 5th Gen forums, but new they are around $200+shipping (too much for a muffler).

The 5th Gen muffler IS very quiet, and I love it. The loud mufflers are cool and make the maxima sound powerful, but a lot of people tire quickly of the loud exhaust. Setting off car alarms while crusing down my neighborhood streets is something I've outgrown. If you want a quiet muffler, this one is excellent.

InternetAutomar: You're in for a muffler GD? I thought you sported the no-muffler look and liked growling down the road with your freeflowing exhaust?

Magnaflows are loud simply because they are mostly (all?) straight-through design with no baffles or multiple chambers for the exhaust to go through. I don't know how that black muffler internetautomar is designed, but it's pretty small so I'm going to guess it's also straight-through.

If you want quiet you're going to want a large, baffled muffler like OEM, 5th Gen OEM, "turbo" mufflers, etc.

i agree with maximum depth on this. i installed a ractive muffler(n1style) during the summer. thing was LOUD. it was louder and as deep as any greddy or magnaflow ive ever haeard on any of my friends/ppl i kno cars. straight through design. feels good wen yoru driving it, sounds/feels more aggressive but i lost alot of low end prob due to not enough backpressure. it helped me in the high end though. problem is, you get really annoyed after a while with the noise and you also go deaf (which happened in my case, everything seemed quiet). got rid of it partially because of a summons for excessively noisy muffler. got a 5th gen se variable intake muffler. sounds very quiet. i get alot of low end back and car makes a nice deep growl wen i revv..all engine. wen doing wot though, you can hear the muffler and ypipe working together =]

InternetAutomar Goes Muff Driving!?

Up the backpressure??? Wait a minute... I thought this was the man who peeks his head out of the chimney and says "I sell that."

Is this the man who said "Muffler? We don't need no stinkin' mufflers!"
Is this the man who said "Screw the resonator and screw the muffler. Just go straight pipe."
Is this the man who wrecked the buffet at the Harold Club? (oops, too far)

So now InternetAutomar will be driving with a muffler! (what did you think the title meant, geez) I guess we can all turn our car alarms back on again. lol Good luck with the GD, Intrnttmr. Hey everybody, jump on this GD so InternetAutomar can finally get a muffler, he deserves it.

I'll disagree. With a Y-pipe+b-pipe+stock muffler, my 00GLE sounded like ***. It had a crusty asmatic growl at idle and had no exhaust note when you rev it. I guess VG's sound different somehow? Although I wouldn't imagine since VG/VE/VQ 3.0L Maxima's all sound similar (not the same, but similar) with mufflers.

Well, I can't speak for a 2000 GLE, but on my 1991 SE that muffler is quiet (whisper-quiet). I actually was hoping that it would be a little louder when the throttle was opened up, as the chambered style is designed to do. But it is fairly subdued even then. I understand that once I install my CAI it will get a little louder, and then I think it will be perfect.

That asthmatic growl you describe is the complete opposite of what I have now. Oh, there was that period right after I installed my y-pipe and muffler when I thought that I must have gotten a bad y-pipe from WSP, because the exhaust became louder after the install?!? Turned out that the new pipe just made my exhaust leak at the studs more pronounced, and it did kinda growl. But that's fixed, and now the car is too quiet. Can't wait to put on the CAI and restore the roar.

My response was to xnyc saying that you can hear the Y-pipe and 5th gen muffler worked together. The 5th gen muffler by design isn't suppost to sing up the tach scale. Your description of it being quiet when you rev it is spot on.

I have a sound clip on my site of my set up thats on the 93...its right there on the first page under exhaust stuff or something like that. Its a 2.5 crush bent b pipe with 22" long resonator and a Dynomax super turbo muffler. It used to sound great but over time it got louder because of running rich and the fiber glass loosening up or whatever...not sure exactly but know its too loud and drones now so I didnt swap it over to my 92.

I like quiet exhaust so I can hear myself think inside the car and dont vibrate because of the droning. I got a 2k muffler a little whille back so if I put anything on the 92 it will be that. Dont get me wrong I like a nice roar of exhaust but it gets old when you drive with your family and want to actually talk while you drive.

I'm playing around to find out how to get some mileage back.
and the wife can't stand my car cause it's loud under load.
my camaro will probably be muffless, but it will have 2 cats (unneccessary but in case of inspection)
I actually want the ANSA version of that muffler, but they only have / had 1 left PERIOD when I talked to them. It was also like 2x the price

I also sell Remus
