My hex bolt was stripped!
My hex bolt was stripped!
I got all the bolts off except for one, and it is stripped! what should i do? The inner part has been mostly rounded out. Its been suggested that i make a cut in the bolt so i can put a big flathead in there. Please help me.
hmmm, first you have troubles breaking them loose and now one of them is stripped - coincidence?
Anyway, it depends on where it is. Some of the front ones you could easily get some vice-grips on and probably break it loose that way. They also have pointy-nosed vice-grips that could go straight down onto the bolt if there isn't much room. Or get a dremel like you mentioned and cut a slot in the bolt to use a screwdriver.

from this thread right?

depends on how bad it is...you MIGHT be able to hammer down a slightly larger hex bit and turn it that way.
if it's really bad then you're in for an **** whooping because the space is tight. if the allen wrench can't break loose the bolt...how do you figure a flat screwdriver can do it?

Had the same thing happen to me. Take the dremel ( if you have one), and slot the bolt. Make it fairly deep. Then take a chisel or flat screw driver and put it in the slot at an angle with the point facing left (lefty loosy) and then tap on it with a hammer. Don't do it hard since aluminum is fragile. With the right angle it should break the nut so you can loosen it by hand. It should just take a few taps.
He didn't round off a nut. he rounded off the head of an allen-head bolt. you can't split the head like that..
If all else fails, use an 8mm drill bit and drill the head off the bolt. remove the intake manifold, then use a couple pairs of vice grips on the shaft sticking out of your manifold to break it loose.
you're going to have to buy a new bolt anyway...

damn, is JB weld that strong??
what if i put some liquid gasket in there and hammered a bit in, do you think that would hold? or should i just make a notch and then put the flathead in my socket wrench and try that, cuz i dunno what a jb weld is
I serously doubt liquid gasket would work. Search google.com for JB weld and you'll find out what it is very quickly. Good stuff and I think it'd work fine. You can get it cheap at any auto parts store or Home Depot or probably lots of other places.
Liquid gasket ain't gonna do diddly. I would put all the other allen heads back on and torque them down CORRECTLY. Then work on getting the screwed up one out. Unfortunately, getting a stripped bolt out is often more technically challenging than just unscrewing the bolt correctly the first time. But live and learn I guess.
It looks like you just want to do it the easiest way. Nothing wrong with that if it works.
So try what awsmm66 mentioned. You will no doubtly have to sacrifice 1-2 bits to get it out but that's no big deal. If that doesn't work, you will probably have to use a big drill bit and drill the head off and slid the manifold off the stud and take it off like Matt/others have said.

It would be nice if he can finally get this project out of the way so he can get going on that VE short/longblock build up.

Matt -
I did this just over the weekend (replaced fuel lines, vacuum lines, and 1 injector.... runs nicely now). Anyway, slit one side of the nut (you can even lightly hammer on it with the chisel to make the slit.). Once you have the slit then you can tap to the left with the chisel/flat screwdriver and hammer. It works. Sorry to repeat something, but since I just had the problem and I solved it in 1 minute without drilling, I know its worth a try.

a welder would be so helpful in this situation. weld a stick to the bolt and go to town.
