What's the optimum PSI to inflate tires for an everyday driver for a 205/65 R15? The max on that tire says 44psi.

I usually keep it at 40 but is that too much or too little? I'm not the racing type although, I do push my car around corners at times.

I want to achieve the best mpg and performance. Just wondering what others keep their tires at.

Thanks

On the underside of the cover, for the storage bin, in the center console, are the Nissan reccomended tire pressures. (I think the GXE is 29 lbs. front and back.) These would be a good starting point, and the minimum to use. The 44 lbs. on the tire is the maximum pressure to use, and gives the maximum load (weight) capacity for the tire. What pressure you end up using depends on the type of driving you do and the roads you drive on. You will get more precise steering and better cornering with a higher pressure (particularly for the front tires). Figure somewhere in the mid 30's. Your gas mileage also goes up with higher pressure. The down side to high pressures is that the ride gets harsher, because more jolts arepassed through to the suspension, rather than being absorbed by the tire. If you drive on poor pavement all the time, with high pressures, you will wear out the suspension bushings faster and cause more body creaks.
Living in NYC, I run 1 or 2 lbs over standard in the front, and standard in the rear. If I'm carring a lot in the trunk, I'll go plus 2 there also.
