Are the Auto and Manual Axles interchangeable?

I am taking the axles off of my GXE to put them on my SE 5-speed. Are they interchangeble? Both cars are 1990's. I just bought these axles last year with my tranny replacement so they have less than 10k miles on them. I really am trying to keep this as cheap as possible until the summertime when I replace them all again.

Pretty sure they are not. I know for sure the VE auto and 5spd are different from each other because I wanted to do the same thing as you for the same reasons.

It should work. VGs and VEs used different axles, but all VG axles are interchangeable. I used my old automatic axles with my 5 speed swap without any problems.

Yeah I know VG and VE used different axles but the VE auto and VE 5spd also use different axles from each other. That is why I was thinking that the VG was the same.

I thought there were 4 different axles for the 3rd gen in other words but I am obviously mistaken since you say you used the same axles.

the ve tranny is the one with the bigger axels. I had to use the ve axel on my swap. the auto's are like 7/8 I think and the ve tranny takes the 1 ich hubs. So you should be able to use the same auto axels.

you painted the wheels, I though your car looked sweet before, but the new wheel color matches the car.

OK to make it more clear as to what I was saying...

The VE auto axle is different from the VE 5spd axle. (2 axles for the VE cars) That is why I assumed the VG auto axle was also different from the VG 5spd axle as well. (thought there were 2 axles for the VG cars)

Oh and I forgot about ABS. Of course abs axles are different from non abs axles so that adds more to it.

Call a parts store and see if they have different part numbers to be 100% sure but if 4DSCPat said they worked on his then you should be fine.

edit: lalo yeah I finished painting them last night. They are actually silverstone metalic and look darker in the pics because the sun really wasnt out for most of the shots. I have more pics on my wheel post.

yeah ur wrong cuz i have an '89 SE 5-speed that i just got last week and it has ABS.

now the axles for the GXE's auto or manual has to be the same cuz when i swapped out my auto tranny from my '93 i used my auto axles for my 5-speed tranny so it should work.

i put the manual axles from my 90 parts car on my 93 auto and no problems. abs to non abs is the only differance. abs will work on non abs its just an extra ring, it should physically work the other way too, but your abs won't
