Audio Questions

1. I bought my VE with a jensen head unit, and aftermarket speakers (MA audio possibly?) Anyway on all the bass notes the lights on my headunit dim, iv seen things like this when with subwoofers, but i dont have any.....weak battery?

2. Im thinkin of puttin some subs in my trunk, im curious, do subwoofers elimintate ur trunk, like will they sound ****ty if u have someing in ur trunk? i was thinkin of just 2 12" W0's, then maybe dynomatting the trunk, anyone know how much it is for enough dynomat to cover the trunk?

The reason your head unit is dimming is because when the loud/ low notes play the head unit is struggling to find power to power your speakers. If you ran an amp for your subs you could power your rear speakers off that and it should solve the dimming.

As for the trunk... yeah subs pretty much eliminate trunk space...
I can still fit like a few bags back there so its not like i miss the space taken up by the subs. If you do have stuff in the back it shouldnt create bad sound. The bad sounds come from the body panels absorbing the sounds and rattling. Go on ebay and search for Dynamat and you can get a trunk kit for like 70 bucks, which is about half of retail, and that will solve alot of bad sounds.

there is an audio forum and a lot of guys in there can answer you questions...

your dimming problem could be weak battery, weak alternator or bad wiring/bad grounds.

putting subs in your trunk will only eliminate as much trunk space as your box takes up.

personally, I would recommend buying one high quality DVC sub instead of two low end SVC subs. You will get superior SQ and usually take up less space. I have one Eclipse DVC 12" aluminum and I am very happy with it. If you like JL, I would consider one 10w3v2. With the right kind of enclosure and the right amount of power, it will sound as good as two W0s. There are lots and lots of options out there, so maybe take a look at this thread to get some ideas:

I think our trunk is pretty big without stuff in it and when I put in my subs it got a lot smaller but I can still a lot in there.

I don't need insane bass so I just use a bazooka tube and a 120W amp to power it. I am the type of guy to keep his room and trunk both full, so I need all the space I can get for my "other stuff".

i would have your alternator and battery tested. take a look at the ground cable going to your battery aswell. if the terminal is corroded at all, clean it up with a wire brush and make sure your ground cable is making a solid connection to the battery. if the ground cable itself is corroding at all, i'd replace it. i did that with mine and it really helped.

our trunks are a good size but once you throw in an stereo equipment, you're pretty much goin to lose 2/3 of the trunks capacity. and unless you have something pressed against your subs in the trunk, having other stuff in your trunk along with your subs won't affect the sound at all.
imo,
forget about the JL w0. get one w3 and a 400rms amp, you'll be quite happy with it.

What kind of box is your Eclipse in?

I have a 15" DVC Eclipse Aluminum and I love it. I didn't like 15's at all until I heard this sub.

It is in an Obcon chambered (vented) enclosure. I have always used sealed boxes, but the shop I went to let me listen to the same sub in this box. It sounded amazing. I still wanted a sealed box because of the cost, but then they made me a deal I couldn't pass up. I don't have quite enough power to it. I have a bigger amp and capacitor I need to install still.

I had a Jensen mp3510 Head unit in my max up until this spring. It was decent, the only probelm I had with it over 2 years is it stopped playing to the front driver speaker(Reason I got rid of it... Replaced with an eclipse... couldn't be happier) The lights on the headunit always dimmed but the cabin lights and headlights never dimmed unless the car was off, but system was on. So the headunit dimming might just be a jensen thing. I had a 10in sub hooked to it and a 240w amp.
