just bought a new cd-reciever HU

today i just bought the Kenwood KDC-128 HU, this is what it looks like KDC-128 , i will buy speakers a couple months later. I will wait until i have aftermarket speakers before i make the installation. I have a 91 se...can i use the stock speaker wiring or do i have to buy aftermarket ones? I might just goto best buy and ask them to install it because i know nothing about audio and i dont wanna mess anything up...will they know what to do or do i have to tell them?

the sound system on 3rd gen is stupid. they make each speaker amped so in order to put an aftermarket headunit in, you have to bypass each amp so that the wire goes directly to the speakers. the speaker themselves have their own power rating system or something like that so i dunno if you can even use the bose speakers.

It should work with a wiring harness but it will get loud really fast because the HU amp the signal then it gets amped AGAIN at the individual speaker's amp (if you have Bose speakers, of course).

If thats problem, add 100 ohm resistor.

yes it will fit, and yes, you can use the stock wiring.

remember to bypass the amps, or it will cause problems (or just leave it in there, use it until it blows, then bypass them).

I replaced my rear speakers but for my front spearks have been using the HU and the Bose's amps togeather for three years and they have not blown...and still sound good.

I wouldn't let besy buy install it. You can find a write up in the stickies. It's not hard I installed my hu without a lot of car knowledge.

I second that. I have my HU hooked up to a PIE Ford(Premium/JBL) headunit replacement converter(leftover from my previous system in my former Ford Probe) hooked up to the front Bose speakers. I even added tweeters to the front stage to help the highs. With my head unit, I can't use the speaker outputs and the RCA's at the same time, so I hooked up a line output converter to the rear speaker outputs from the HU to the RCA cables to the amplifier(I bypassed the rear Bose amps) and then to the 6x9's. The sound is very good.

for me...it was a simple decision
i ripped out all the factory wiring because it's crappy and put in some virtually o2 free copper wiring.
