pls. help. car wont start

car has been clicking for awhile, and today i leave to go to work and the thing quits on me at the stop sign. Felt normal, before she died. When i turn the key it tries to start, but wont. Any ideas what the problem is?

probably your alternator is gone

if not that, possibly your battery is gone

if you are very, very lucky, your battery terminals are so corroded it won't charge the battery and you can clean them, jump it and everything will be OK

ive got power to everything. Sterio lights etc.. cleaned the battery posts anyway and put them on nice and firm. Still nothing. Do you think it could be plugs/wires or maybe the fuel filter?

Does starter turn engine over or just click? Click means bad or discharged battery or bad starter/solenoid. Bob

she?

Excercise her until sHe i s HE with PWR.

- check for spark
- check for injector click [distr or VE cam sensor off and rotate]
If injectors click, ECU gets pwr, is alive up to a point. If not, check ECU voltage supply.

- feel fuel hose for stiffness after ign on [pressure/pump ok]

ok, so i got it down to this.
The ignition coil is not getting spark. What would cause this.
i thought it was the ignition coil, and went out a bought as new one. Not the coil. No spark. at a loss.

1. Did you check for injector click? Is ECU alive?

2. Ign coil should have constant +12V. Is there?

3. Spark comes [if] as ECU grounds pwr transistor base via ECU pin1.

You'll need to disconnect neg. battery cable. Remove black plastic ecu cover panel on drivers foot well above gas pedal. Loosen 10 mm bolt on ecu harness (lower harness). Gently wiggle and remove ecu wiring harness. Use QD (quick dry) contact cleaner (NAPA, Pepboys ect.)
Spray down harness contacts (esp. 1-2 wires light green w/ red stripe & black w/ yellow stripe in the CENTER section of connector) Let cleaner sit 15-30 min. You can also lightly spray ecu contacts. Use paper towel to wipe drips & allow to dry. (a couple hours or overnight) Reseat harness plug and wiggle until harness is lightly seated evenly front to back. Hand tighten bolt in stages (tighten & then push/wiggle connector in) until it is fully seated. Do NOT over tighten 1/4" rachet w/ firm even pressure is fine. Reconnect neg. battery cable. Should start. If not check voltage at pwr transistor plug (in front of distb.) One wire should be ground, one 12v key on, 3rd is ecu #1 4-6v pulsing while cranking. Ecu #2 at coil is ign. check circuit. Bob

pull your alternator & battery out, go to autozone, etc... have them check its condition out and recharge the batt for free. try again and see what's wrong
