Anyone deleted some things to lighten car?

Here's my list so far

-Spare
-Jack
-Tools for jack/tire
-Board that covers spare
-Carpet that covers spare
-pad/sound deadening material on the doors
-pad/sound deadening material on the hood
-no foglights

I have nothing in the glove box, coin/ash tray, center console compartment, door map pockets. I only have my insurance ID card in the cup holder. What else can be removed? I'm about to open up the pillars to see if I can gut anything out and maybe even remove the power windows/sunroof motors since I barely use them. Im wanting to invest in lightweight items such as a starter,battery,springs,catback/muffler and get the WSP Y-pipe on.

All in preparation for the new track season this coming April when the track is finally opened here

the best way to lighten a Max is to sell it and buy a 2nd generation VW GTI.

right. they already contain nothin, are noisy, leak oil... but are fast & very nice to handle (one reason is weight distr: the tires are in the corners.)

...and if u buy diesel, u can commute free with McDonalds french fries oil...
But then youre always slobberin thru windshield for the Maximum. Poor future.

there's really no point on the maxima in my opinion but you can...
hollow out the doors, hood and trunk bracing.

Thanks I don't plan on driving it around like this all the time, I'm just getting idea's and start lightening the car now while I have time. After the first one or two drag strip sessions, It'll be back on again.

Try Zone diet. It works on long term, and u will even like it if u do an application which fits u taste.

Dunno what is u goal: but there is really lots of stuff u can ripoff if u are building it for racing. All upholstery & widgets from antenna to win dowsers. Start from heaviest first: the alternator, A/C, steering pump... But if u wanna please others [inside], nonoo.

Btw. I want to see a pic of that skeleton...

Note 1.: taking alternator off shortens travel plans...

I saw an episode once, where they guy drilled holes in the hood and trunk..(Not meaning drilling holes "through" the hood, but you know the edges where it is thick around the hood...)..Not sure if it'll lighten your car since our hoods are so heavy...

Thats the way to go: increase power and widgets!

Btw. Where do u need hood and trunk?

Lose the batter and starter, install a pull start, lift wieghts to pull the cord.

-Get aftermarket seats.
-Rmove the spare wheel well.

PPl in the VW world remove the power antenna, power windows, locks.

don't use a muffler.
perforate all supports.
remeber: it's easier to lose 16 ozs than 1 lb.

Carbon fiber is always a nice way to go. Expensive, but probably will shave off a little time? Get some Ray's Engineering wheels if you've got the money too!! mmmmm....Ray's wheels!!

Remove bumper supports. I shaved 68 lbs exactly by doing that and removing the foglights too.

I think I shaved something like 70-80lbs from removing all sound deadening and carpet.

I will remove my muffler at the track this season just to see if I can bust some new records NA. I don't use the muffler anyway since I have a cutout.

you could probly strip the rear break system off without loosing too much stopping power, and you're loosing weight anyway, so you need less, and hopefully you dont have ABS cause thats a lot of weight, that would be a beehotch to loose

Put some thought into it before ripping stuff off the car.

What is in your car that you don't use?
What is on your car that you use?
What comforts can you live without? Sound deadening? A/C? Radio?

lightweight Starters and Alternators are $$$$$- money that can be better spent elsewhere- like lightweight wheels, and aftermarket brakes.

My track wheels are 20lb PER CORNER lighter than my street wheels, and the tires are also smaller diameter to help lower inertia and torque arm length. That helps acceleration and braking, not to mention cornering from the lower unsprung rotating mass.

My 13" 2-piece rotors weigh less than HALF what my factory rotors did, and my calipers weigh 4lb each. Factory calipers are around 10lb each.

If you're incredibly serious about it, remove your bumper supports and turn them into swiss cheese. you still want some semblance of crashworthiness, but you can remove a large portion of weight from them without sacrificing strength too much.

removing sound deadening material will also make a huge difference. I removed ONLY the stuff under the dash and along the floor in the interior and it was 48lb.. I actually notice no difference in road noise, since most of that comes in from the doors.

And go on a diet. it's much cheaper to save money by giving up the beer and lose a few pounds than it is to save 10lb purchasing a $200 lightweight battery.

yea, thinking: where do u get u propulsion while up there? Anyways brakes not needed anymore. As I mentioned, first drop engine. --->Next fill helium, tires, cabin. Buy propeller, cam to rotate.

maximized ECO -racing...

How can you run a car on empty? Empty means that there is no gas in the car?

I still miss the 3rd gen though, because now that I've had the 4th gen for 2 weeks, I'm making comparisons in my head of how much better the 3rd gen feels when driving

Yeah you're pwned by the MLB. It's all about IRS baby. But you can still get coilovers and other suspension items for cheap. You can also get a turbo kit. The options equal out I guess.
