I have a charcoal grey 92 SE and yesterday I went to get my windows tinted at a reputable shop in NYC, I went with 20% because I thought that 35% would be too light. The job was well done...no gaps, back windshield was done in one piece. My question is did the 92+ SE's come with some kind of coating on the windows because mine do not exactly look black it sort of looks black-borderline brown, by the way the paper they used was Lumar. Before the tint I always noticed that on a bright sunny day from far my windows had a hint of brown to them. I know a couple of 3rd genners on the board have charcoal-grey Maximas w/tint and I'd like know if the same thing happened to them or anyone else for that matter. Thanks in advance.

Brown tint

I know that my Maxima has a brown tint in the composition of the glass. Some come with a green tint. It is not a coating.

Re: Brown tint

The green tint you see is from the process by which the glass was made. The float glass process uses a molten tin bath to float the glass on. The tin creates the brown tint. In some cases they add Fe 2+ to the glass. By oxidation-reduction reactions the tin is transfered to a stable valence state and Fe 3+ becomes the major colorant to the glass.

You can see this tint in most windows produced in the last 20-25 years.

interesting little tid-bit but was this process done to any 4th gens because it seems to me that only 3rd gens have this brown composition especially metallic blue, black, and charcoal grey Maxs.

hi, i got a 92 grey max just like yours. I have 20% in the back windows with a strip on the front windshild and 35% on the front two windows. The color of the tint is actually the brand of tint they used. I payed $60 more to get onyx ...maybe spelled wrong which is a very high quailty tint. The guy said that this tint is easier to see out at night and ACTUALLY looks black, and its true! Im glad I went all out....well thats it

my tints actually look like 15% and don't get me wrong they are black at night but my question is how do yours look like in daylight? Can you notice a hint of brown to them. I thought Lumar was high quality paper. I saw them actually take it out the box and apply the tint. Hey NYC MAXIMA how did your tints come out?
