Help.....Air Flow Sensor Error Code

HELP.... I get an Air Flow Sensor Code(12). Car idles (A little high) with and without the sensor connected. I've checked the harness per the Chiltons manual and everything checks out. Car stalls as soon as I put it in Drive or Reverse.

Should my car be able to idle without the air flow sensor connected? Is there any way to check the sensor before I replace it. I am also getting a fuel injector circuit open (code 51), and a temperature sensor error codes(13).

I recently replaced one of my injectors because it had a higher resistance reading than the others. I thought that would fix the open injector circuit code. Replaced the injector with new from Nissan $113 still getting a 51 error code. Performed the dianostics procedure per Chiltons manual still getting code 51.

I'm concerned about all the Codes, but mainly the Air Flow ($$$$) due to cost.

Trying to fix car before I give to my Dad since he drives my kids around and he needs something a little more reliable than the Geo he currently has.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

first off get an FSM if you can.
2nd replace the coolant sensor, it's cheap and easy.
if the coolant sensor code goes away then you can start on the other codes.
if the coolant code stays then it's going to take some time and a specialized tool or two to get to the bottom of the problem

Thanks Internetautomar,

I noticed that if I unplug the temp sensor the fans turn on, as soon as i plug it back in the fans turn off. Does the sensor need to be replaced? If I replace the Temp sensor and the sensor code goes away, what next? There was another sensor with one terminal next to the sensor i'm referring to. When i unplug it the temp gauge doesn't work. Do I need to replace both? They both seem to respond when unplugging and pluging back in.

Where can I locate, borrow, rent an FSM? I'm in the LA area. Is the FSM the only way to check the airflow sensor?

Any maxima.org member in the LA area that can help?

Thanks again.

LA? ...check out: kc10fish

Do not replace any of those before measurement.

How it behaves without MAF and data, measurement from here, VG30E: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1

that doesn't in and of itself mean much.
the FSM is a factory Service Manual. it's a book with most of the diagnostic and repair information in it.
the airflow sensor is a tough one to check, that's why it's last on the list of things to check.

I followed the procedure on Walts Page http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1 to check the Air Flow Sensor using an oscilliscope. I didn't get any signal from the sensor so I bought a refurbished sensor $115 + Core. No more check engine light. The code for the Engine Temp sensor and the fuel injector circuit are also gone...strange....

Car drives great...makes me almost regret giving to my Dad. Tempted to keep it with 200K miles and give the '99 Taurus with 100K miles.

Have too many cars, wife got a new G35. I get her old car (Taurus), Dad gets my car (Maxima). Expedition in garage for camping and long trips.

Maybe I'll sell the Taurus and get a used Maxima (95+)???

I'll follow up if light comes back on.

Thanks again internetautomar & Wiking. Great to have this forum to turn to for help.

Did u ? read my page http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/14
also?

ECU has 50 codes for 5000 suckers. Youre lucky to get one code right during u lifetime...

Clean u connectors as suggested, add few groundings.
