Hesitation Problems on a 92 Max
#1
Its bone stock and I have had it for a while now. About 109k. Im not sure if it had its 60k tune up, but anyway. This is the problem that I keep having, I have posted before with no luck, perhaps someone can help now?
When I drive the car hard for a short ammount of time and then return to normal driving and then try to drive hard again it seems to have a hesitaion problem around 3k RPM and above. It seems almost to stutter. If I get out and unscrew the gas cap or let the car sit for a while, it returns to its usual punchy self. When I unscrew the gas cap there is a good amount of pressure coming out of the tank, not sure if this is normal or not on the Max. Someone said that I need new spark plugs and wires, would this help? Also, I will be having an oil change done on Friday, what/if anything, should I have worked on to increse performance with out buying new parts?
Thanks for any help,
Jay

I had a similar problem with my 92 SE not too long ago. After I drove it around for a while and got on it a few times it would hesistate noticeably and have trouble accelerating to about 3500 rpm but once past there it would take off. When I shut the car off and restarted it would be fine. I had the EGR valve replaced as well as the O2 sensor. This instantly fixed the problem. From what I understand the EGR valve wasnt releasing the proper exhaust flow and that coupled with a failing 02 sensor made the car run really lean or really rich (I cant recall which). I hope this helps. Have them run a computer diagnostic first to see if this would help.
