I read in your max of the month stats that you advanced the timing 5 degrees. How may I ask, did you accomplish that since you have the VE engine? I would greatly appreciate the info because I would like to advance my timing as well (I own a 93 SE). One more thing, I read somewhere if you advance the timing it would make the car harder to start. Do you have that problem? Thanks again.

Ok

If you happen to have a Nissan Service manual available the directions are there. I'll be more than willing to send you a copy of those pages (for the right price = $0.00) You can either drop me a private message or email with your info and I'll try to do it when possible. I'm a little busy right now since I'm back to a one car family (my tranny died) and working grave yard shift. OK?

You advance the timing with the crank angle sensor located at the end of the front cylinder head exhaust camshaft towards the tranny. Hook a timing light to the #1 coil harness connector(should pick up the signal) and loosen the holddown bolts on the crank angle sensor. You can now turn it to adjust ignition timing on the VE. Your timing marks are kinda hard to see but they are on the crankshaft pulley. Stock timing is 15 BTDC and I have mine at 20. Check your service manual for more details.

I think you meant to say cam sensor

Not the crank sensor. The service manual recommends other ways of hooking up a timing light but I do think the coil harness does work. There's a procedure of disconnecting and connecting different sensors while adjusting the cam sensor, just cant remember the procedure without reading. That's all that related to adv the timing. The good thing about it is that I can retard the timing below stock incase I decide to go NOS

If you have ABS it is incredibly difficult to see s**t. I was going to do jimbaro's car (he's got ABS so it was a no go). I you dont have ABS move the coolant reservoir out of the way and place it infront of the engine. you can then see in a strait line down to the crank pulley. there is a pin for the timming marker which is located at the top of the pulley. when you locate the pin you can color it white (with paint or a good marker) to see it better when timming the engine. if the pulley markers are dirty then get under the car and use some glass cleaners or something no to strong just to remove any dirt on it.
