Security Alarm Light...

Security Alarm Light...
Just wondering if the stock security light in my '91 SE is supposed to blink when the car is off. Seems like it should...but mine doesn't. My friend's '93 SE does...just curious if mine is defective or they changed for the later models. thanks.

I'm kinda unclear on what you're referring to, so correct me if I'm wrong here...
What you're saying is, when you lock your car, the light is on but then goes off?? THAT is normal.
If the door is open and the light is blinking (with the car turned off), THAT is normal as well.
If the door is closed and the light is NOT blinking (i.e. SOLID - with the car turned off), THAT is normal, too. Of course, that goes back to my first sentence, where the light goes off after about a minute.
Now, if the door is open and the light is NOT blinking or solid (with the engine off), then you have issues. Then, I'd check the doors, hood, or trunk for a faulty pin switch. Rarely, the door lock module is to blame. But I'd look at the pinswitches first off.

cool...well i was just curious if it was supposed to be a flashing 'warning' light...like some alarm systems have with a little red LED light. But if it's SUPPOSED to blink, and then just go off after a minute...then all is well I suppose, but, it does blink in my friends '93 when its just sitting there. was that something they changed? thanks again though.

In my 90SE, the light blinks when the car is shut off, but something (a door, trunk, hood) is still open -- like the security system is ready to be set but something is still in a 'fault' position.
Once the doors/trunk/hood are all shut and the door is locked with the key, the light comes on solid for a few moments and then shuts off, signifying that the alarm is set. I'm pretty sure it details this in the owner's manual.
