Cruise Control Help

My cruise doesn't work!

93 VE5spd, the light in the switch next to the steering wheel will light up when it is turned on, but pushing the buttons on the steering wheel (still the airbag wheel, havn't swapped in the 240 one yet) doesn't do anything..

The previous owner said that the switch (I'm assuming he meant the one to the left of the steering wheel) needed a new ground...I was confused by this. I took the whole dash out today (put my HUD in) and it doesn't look like it'd need a new ground, or that the harness had ever been tampered with..

Ideas anyone?

first thing to do is check the clutch and brake switches

Often it's just one of those switches that is out of adjustment so it thinks one of them is depressed so it wont let you set it. There is a locknut on each one and then you can move it back.

each pedal has two switches (clutch has one for CC and one for the system where you have to push the clutch to start the car and I think brake has two also - CC and brake light)

both should be at the top of the pedal. Check out the EL FSM section for ASCD and it'll tell you what wire colors are there so you can make sure you have the right ones. They're a pain to get to and you'll probably have to get on your back and look up under the dash.

Mine did the same thing when I got it and I found a cruise control assembly out of a boneyard for $20 and replaced it, then it worked perfectly. I was too lazy to figure out which part was bad, so I too the whole thing.

See the part with the blue sticker on it below the power steering reservoir? That's the part I replaced and all of the lines on both side from where they connect.

Easier than replacement [=trip to boneyard] is first to check that the vac pump there works and vac hose, diaphgram is ok. In that actuator there is 'nothin' else.
