Grounds For A Beatdown

Yesterday i decided that the body shop had my car long enough (27 days). I decided to go over there at 10am and stay untill i got my car. I got there at 10 but the dude who was working on my car had supposedly left for rivets. So i decide that ill work on my car till he gets back. i get on the phone and start calling places to get my window replaced that this fool broke, and locate the correct tail light(he got me a 91 se tail and i have a 92). drove 30 min and picked it up myself. WHen the body guy gets back to work at 3 pm he comes back and is like "man he still didn't get the rivets?" refferring to the shop manager. so i figure out this guys scheme and say you stay here ill go get the rivets. i run to autozone and come back and the body guy had dissappeared. by this time i see the glass people putting in a back window that the guy had bought from a junk yard. so i inquire about the insurance on it and of course there was none. the think had purple bubly tint on it and had moss growing on it. so i say take that off my car and leave. so i set up an appointment with a reputable shop. i had the rivets so i start on the body kit myself. i finish everything but the front then i see the body guy pull up again. he sits in his car for 30 min then gets out and watches me for another 10. so i go inside and tell the owner to either tell him to get his @ss to work or leave. he comes back and im explaining to him what needs to be done. i basically just wanted the car so i could leave and i told them i would come back to finish the major problems. Thats when i saw a tear in the leather. there is glass all over the back of my seats so im like where did this tear come from. The body guy gets mad and is like you are too picky, so i say if im payin $1800 ill be as picky as i need to be. i know every inch of my car and that wasnt there. so i leave cus i dont want to get into it with the car who is fixing my car. come back about an hour and a half and he had put rivets on the outside of the already painted kit!!! i could have done that in 10 min!!! so its like 8:30 and im ready to leave. start the car and the owner is like now we need to discuss money. Im like you must be joking, he had my deposit of $850 and he still hadn't replaced my window, they scracted two of my rims, tore my leater, and the paint job was terrible, and he even admitted that he wasn't done. but yet he asked me for the remaining balance. Thats when i lost it...my roomate and three other friends walked in at that time and i guess me getting in his face and thier presence wore him out. so he was like give me 200 and you can take the car. i didnt want to leave my car there anymore and i didnt want him to try to finish it so he could mess it up more so i said $125 gave it to him and left. that was around midnight. so now my car is sitting outside with a half @ss paint job and no rear window. ill get picks up later. but basically he fixed my quarter panel, shaved my trunk, fixed some other body work, gave me a half @ss paint job, broke my rear window, scratched my rim and gave me hell for a month for $975. next time ill just whoop @ss, might get faster results.

That sucks. I gotta ask though, how much research did you do before selecting this bodyshop to do almost $2000 worth of work to your car? If I ever get my car re-painted, I plan on spending at least a few hours figuring out the reputation of the local body shops.

That's why I like doing my own work. And I get buddy buddy with a shop before I ever let them work on my car... That's how I knew the guys who did my axels and clutch were good mechanics. I'd come in about once a week and BS with the owner. Came in real handy. He knows I'm a mechanic so he doesn't try to pull bull**** with me. I get good discounts on all parts (at cost to begin with). I take the hit on labor sometimes... but hey, the guys have to eat too. And this is only on major stuff, that I don't have to tools to do.

Body work??? That's why I have the guys at our body shop help me. A six pack of beer and they'll help you do just about anything.

O boy. Feel sorry for u.

I was 18 when my car 'career' started in equal circumstances. Luckily survived as steering 'exploded' on the road...

I decided that from this point on I can ruin my car for free... Been 'collecting tools' few decades since that. Will not let anybody near my vehicle.

Yeah my dad was getting on me cus we have the paint guns and stuff. We usually do things ourselves but i was in an accident and im in school 16 hours away from home. I was desperate. Im just glad to have my car back. He was quoting me a good price and i guess i got caught being cheap. You always pay more to be cheap. I forgot my own advice.

I started takingpictures of all the flaws but it was too sunny outside so i gave up. I have an appointment at 1pm today then after that im going to try to get the tint put back on then get the interior cleaned up. i know a place where i can get the paint fixed. They do show cars and are kinda expensive but they do good work. Im going to shave the door handles too cus he painted the rubber seals and they look like crap. more pics on my cardomain.

try color sanding (right terminology?) your paint, you'd be amazed at how well it can improve what appears to be a crappy job.
I need to do mine
