Why doesnt the starter work ...

Why doesnt the starter work ...

Ok well ... my starter went bad on my 92 gxe right ...

and i have a parts car .. which is a 92 se with the dual overhead cam .. ok...

well i took the starter off the dohc car .. and plug everything back the way it was and when i went to start it the starter spun but it didnt start my car are these starters different cuz they looked the same to me just the solenoid was a little smaller on the se one ... but i took it back off .. soooo any suggestions on how to make it work .. ?? or do i need to buy a new starter ...

???
or does anyone have a parts car they wanna give me a solenoid off .. cuz thats the only thing thats wrong with my starter .... if so how much i live in ottawa canada ... anyone ???

Well, I cant be sure but I would venture a guess that the DOHC starter is different then the SOHC one........
Are you sure that it's the selenoid thats bad too, cause it could just have been the connections, and when you swapped them, it made it better. Try bench testin the starter off the GXE and if it doesnt work then hit up the parts store and buy a new selenoid.

the starter difference is only if he has the starter off a VE a/t. all others are the same

So what EXACTLY is wrong, the starter does absolutly nothing? Does it click or anyting?

Try starting in neutral, and slightly above and below neutral. My guess is that you have broken nylon bushings on the tranny shift cable. Is it an automatic?

make sure the starter is genuine NISSAN or you'll have problems sooner than you think. Rebuilt starters and alternators for Nissan in general are problem parts we see here on the service drive everyday. Dead starters, partially working starters, bad alternators etc are the norm.

ok the one im tryin to fix is an auto ..
i have a 5spd dohc parts car .. .
the starter off the dohc 5 spd wont work right on the gxe auto .. ...
i connected it .... everything bolted up fine ..
and when i went to start it .. i heard it spinning really fast ... it just wasnt on the flywheel or whatever its connected to in the block ..
is there a speacial way to put it in or what ???

Why not just make the VE 5 speed run??? and then ditch the GXE...

cuz the bottom end of the engine needs to be rebuilt .. i dont have time or the funds for that right now ...
