Ok guys, getting ready to flush my cooling system and I was wondering what is the best coolant to use? I've heard that on many cars with aluminum heads, it's best to stick with OEM because of the OEM coolant containing no borates or silicates. I've heard that Prestone and other "over-the-counter" brands contain these borates and silicates, and will eventually increase the chance of electrolytic corrosion at the water ports. I know that this is especially true on my 85 Toyota pickup, but they're pretty much famous for this corrosion. Is the same true for the Max? Should I stick with OEM Nissan coolant, or is it ok to just use a long-life antifreeze from a parts store? Anyone ever looked into this? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Toyota's Red Coolant has a good reputation for long life and not containing silicates, etc. I currently use it in my 99 Max. If you're looking for long life and not replacing the coolant every year, then get that stuff. Otherwise, regular Prestone and once-a-year flushes will be just as nice on your cooling system.....

After research and discussing w/my dealer I switched 30K or so ago to Dexcool long-life coolant (the orange/red stuff). The stuff is compatible with traditional green ethyl glycol but does not have as good of long-life properties. I plan to stay w/Dexcool and flush every 3 years or 30K miles. Hopefully the site below will help you. I have other references if you want more info.
