VG30 Spark Plug Question

The question is not about what type of plugs to use (I got NGKs), but cleaning the area around where the plug seats.

As you all know, the spark plugs on the VGs are deeply recessed into the head. Over the years, this recessed area where the spark plugs seat gets pretty dirty with all kinds of crap.

I haven't really figured out a way to clean this area out. If anybody has, let me know.

I've been careful not to drop any junk into the spark plug hole while changing the plugs, but there's a lot more crap built up around it now....

I thought about taking it to a self-service car wash and spraying these areas with high-pressure wash, but since it is the ignition system and the water can't drain from that area, I figured that's probably not the smartest thing to do.

When I did the plugs, I took compressed air and blew it in there and got out all the leaves, cactus (rats suck), dirt, whatever. I don't think the water would be a horrible idea because you do have to drive the car back home to change the plugs, and even if the recessed holes don't drain, a several hundred degree engine will surely steam off the water in a few minutes.

usually I'll spray some engine cleaner down there to help break loose the greasy deposits, then hose it off with the water hose... once that's done, take some compressed air and blow as much water as you can out of it before pulling the plugs loose.

Thanks guys. What I ended up doing was spraying some Simple Green and I got my pressure washer and blasted that area out.

Apparently, that area is designed to drain out. I thought I would end up with puddles in there, but didn't. The only one I had difficulty with was #6. The handle for my pressure washer is too long and I couldn't aim straight into that area as the back on the handle would hit the hood.

I started the engine and let it run it all steam off and everything worked fine.
