E - Exhaust
G - Gas
R - Recirculator
What it does is recirculates the exaust gases back into the combustion chamber to lower the temperature of the chamber.
Over time it gets clogged up, prohibiting from doing what it has to do, and then you get a check engine light. It is located near the Power Valve Acutator.
I hope this helps.
When the EGR sticks open (because of carbon deposits) the engine will idle rough or even stall when hot (or maybe when cold also) and at a stop. this is because the mix gets screwed up and their isnt enough 02.
I removed mine and cleaned it out. I later thought that it would have been a better idea to disconect the intake into the EGR and with the engine running spray carberator cleaner in, doing this while pulling up on the diaphram on the EGR allowing it to suck in the carberator cleaner. this is an excellent way to remove all carbon deposits on the seat of the EGR. Always be carful not to get any carberator cleaner on anything else especially paint.
