What would you guys do? Max or T-type?
I have the oppertunity to trade my 93 saphire blue (mint paint) max se 5-spd with 155K (grounded vtc's, waterpump barely leaks) for an 87 turbo t-type with 167K. my car has the cloth seats, bose tape deck, udp, y-pipe and an intake. I have been using it as my dependable vehicle to drive long distances, like going to college, but now that college is almost over I wont need to drive as far. I also have a low 13 sec talon awd that I can also use to drive if for example the buick breaks down. The owner of the buick wants to trade me straight up for my car. The regal has a rebuilt bottom end, new shocks, new brake master cylinder, brake pads and shoes just done, new mas sensor, and coil pack. The turbo has a tiny bit of shaft play, and its otherwise all stock except for the 2.5 inch exhaust. The interior is mint on it and the body is good except for maybe a total (added up) of a dollar bill size worth of bubbling underneath the paint. Paint is decent on it. What would you guys do in my situation? I'm right on the fence about it!

Can you compare the reliablity of both cars as well as safety and maintence costs? That trade seems too good to be true unless you have seen that car for the last few years everyday. If I were you I would do the trade but that's only because I own the VG maxima and I am looking for RWD. BTW is it RWD.

ohh yeah its RWD! My maxima was my first car and I really am attatched to it...more then I ever thought I would be to a car, but since it is such a good deal on my side and since it is in such good shape, I think I might have to clean out the max and let it go to another owner. It was a very cool car to own and I think I might look at another one when the money is there. Its just a Regal T-Type with the SFI turbo 3.8, not a GNX or a Grand National...hmm maybe I'll paint it to be a clone?? Thanks guys for your input it makes it a lot easier to make the decision.

I agree. Get rid of the Mitsu and buy the T-Type. I wouldn't make a GN clone out of it myself. So many people have done that it's no big surprise anymore. I'd find a shade it looks really good in (perhaps a dark metallic?) and paint it that, and maybe drop it an inch or two and up the suspension (ladder bar, etc.). The 3800 will go forever, and it'll be a very nice car.
A straight-up Max/T-Type trade is a smoking deal on a rare car. I'd just make sure it's as straight as it sounds, but most people that have GNs/GNXs/T-Types/Turbo-Ts don't abuse them...usually.

its all personal preference id keep the max but i can see why others would do the trade

Trade it man, the Buick wouldn't be as reliable or as classy as the Max but it is an awesome car with much more potential. If it is similar condition as the max then it would be worth much more than the maxima. Just look at the completed auctions on ebay for a T-type and see what you find.

Honestly telling you the truth the buick has a lot of potential but in my eyes that car itself is not a very pleasant sight. i really like the shape of the max. But considering that the 87 buick would have more potential i would go with the majority and trade.

Well these days an old GM G-body is rather unsightly, but done up in GN livery they are not too shabby looking. They're arguably the best looking G-body too.
The GN would probably be easier to work on than the Max too, but I still say buy the GN and drop the Mitsu. Just my thoughts.

Not as rare as the Pontiac GP 2+2 aerocoupe. I've only seen 1 ever, and I saw it here in Phoenix. It's admittedly not as pretty as the Chevy aerocoupe though. I wonder if anyone has tried to Aerocoupe a GN. Granted it'd be tough, since you'de have to re-engineer the trunk lid, and do a lot of welding...

Because not only does the thing handle like an ocean liner... it's pretty much a land yacht. Keep the Max... trade the mitsu if you want it that bad.

and the ocean liner handleing is EASILY remedied on that car. plus every aftermarket thing you can think of is available for it.
tubular control arms? Check
externally adjustable shocks? Check
Coil overs? Check
poly bushings? check
shall I keep going?

the max is newer so it may handle better depending on mileage/maintenance.

InternetAutoMar is right: it's so cheap and easy to fix the T-Type's handling. Add the ladder bar and a drop to everything InternetAutoMar listed, and I'd wager the Regal will start out-handling a Max, or a lot of other cars out there.
Regals are big cars, but they aren't THAT big. Their virtue is their dirt-cheap nature, and the absolute proliferation of aftermarket upgrades. The Regal's RWD only adds to all the positive previously stated.
