Wreckage *PICS*
I went back to my parent's house today to get pics of my wrecked max to show you all. It was a very sad photo shoot.
This tranny mount couldn't handle impact, I wonder how the other engine parts are doing...

Tell me what you guys think.

that breaks my heart.
If you hit hard enough to snap that mount, I would say there is probably a little bit of frame warpage, too. You should probably have it inspected by a body shop before you decide to rebuild.
If you are up to it, rebuild it, but just be sure there won't be any problems first. I hate to see a VE 5-speed off the road.

That would be exactly what I need to fix it, but the airbag also deployed. I don't know if a functional one is hard to install or even worth it. If insurance totals it and won't fix it for me then I'll rip it out, the damn thing didn't do anything but burn my arm anyway. How much do you think those junkyard parts will run me plus the repaint and everything?
The car ran, and moved after we pried the fender fron the tire. The gears shift smoothly when car is off, and all electronics are functional.
RedMax, it broke my heart too. It feels worse than breaking up with a girlfriend that you actually like.

if your lucky you could find all the body parts you need in the same color from a junk yard or if not definitly here http://www.car-part.com/
that would be much cheaper then having to repaint
i would estimate about 500$ form a junkyard
or about 750$ from http://www.car-part.com/

crap you could probably search hard enough and find a parts car for cheaper than 500. i mean wrecked 3rd gens are so popular......
sorry bout your car man, i feel for you, my car was in a wreck and it hurt so bad i just wanted to get a diff car, but i instead fixed it, wasnt as bad as yours. hope everything works out good for you.

Not to offend anyone (don't you love it when posts start out like that?), but it appears that some of these accidents are the result of rear-ending someone.
Perhaps we need to not tail-gate, or at least leave plenty of following space in front of us? (I know, I know: "It wasn't MY fault -- the guy just STOPPED in front of me!!!!").(I recently heard those words out of my own son's mouth, so I'm not making this up.)
On another note, notice in all of these accidents that the front end "crumple zone" took the force of the accident, the motor mounts broke so that the engine would go down and out, rather than back into the passengers' laps, and that the cabin is basically intact, leaving plenty of "room to live." The front end absorbed the impact, exactly as it was designed to do. If we all in turn do our jobs (i.e. wear your seat belt) we can continue to discuss how to best repair the cars, rather than lament the tragic loss of a forum member.

Geerhed, you seem to be blaming me for something you have no idea about. The guy made a left hand turn in front of me, and instead of simply completing it or not beginning at all...he stopped. It was his late reaction and he even said he "panicked" and just flat out stopped. He got the ticket and I was not speeding according to police measurements. I do not tailgate people when driving (unless they are seriously under speed limit). Please don't chastise me for this stuff. It's hard enough to lose this car and your ignorance is annoying and not helpful. If this was meant as a public service announcement and not meant directly towards me then please disregard what I said. The other part about the motor mounts is pretty interesting though.
As for the love thing, being a freshman in college didn't really interest me in finding ONE girl, so my observations may be skewed due to an extreme maxima obsession. LOL.
I do not plan on selling it, but you never know.
Probmxstyle, your car got jacked! Looks way worse than mine. What speed was that at?

Doesn't matter if you find an auto or a 5spd since you have the perfect donor car. Just move everything over from the wreck to the new car. Remember to take parts you may need in the future like say, window regulators, windsheild wiper ball/joint assemblies, power steering pumps etc.....
Good luck
My two motor mounts looked to be in good shape and if there was damage, it would only have been inside the actual rubber (no metal). The front transmission mount looked stable, as it is pretty solid as well. The "frame damage" so so taboo right now, I hear it and cringe. Is there a way I can quickly check for frame damage? Here are a few more of the pics I didn't post that show the radiator supports. It got pushed in pretty far, but The radiator fans are not touching any actual engine parts. The adjustor comes out tommorrow...
You want to trade straight up for your good condition maxima? Lol, please explain this. My aftermarket parts not including rims would run you far less than 2k.
The idea of trying to find a new one like this scares me. I was thinking if my appraisal was high enough that I would get a 4th gen, part out this one. I love 3rd gens way more and would regret such a move, but the 4th gen has the bolt on supercharger kit, and FI in a maxima is my ultimate goal.

Well, I wanted to, before you mentioned/showed that radiator support metal, I noticed it was slightly bent above the headlights in your first pic post.
I love that pearl color, and mine has a little rust on it that I don't wanna deal with: I saw a nice looking car (tint, rims, etc) that looks like it could be easily fixed (before what i said before) and thought about it, depending on your interior I actually might have, would you have considered it?
PS I have my perfect condition stock headlights from, I think they are NEW, my car was in a front end accident seems like, I'd be willing to sell you them (not sure if I'll need the brackets or not yet, do you need them?) to help out you cause

Garbury, I had my first car accident before you were born. That doesn't make me better, or ancient, just another member of the club.
My comments were more of an observation of the current social climate that seems to breed tailgaters and wannabe Fast 'n Furious Charter Members than a condemnation of your situation. Of course I have no idea what happened to you: I wasn't there and couldn't possibly know.
In my own driving, I don't trust any other driver to do the correct thing: I assume that everyone else is a complete idiot behind the wheel.. and they usually don't disappoint. I'm glad you're OK.

Would I consider getting rid of this car? If there is frame damage, yes. Anythign else, not really. Rust=maxima cancer hell, so i don't want that one. Haha. I think I'm gonna take advantage of the situation now that I need new headlights to install the E36s.
Another reason this car was so valuable to me is it had 128k and NO TICKING VTCs. It ran beautifully. The interior carpet is stained, but im replacing it with black if I can save my baby.
Geerhed, I learned about just how dumb people are behind the wheel. I am a very safe/ fast driver (oxymoron i know). I am very attentive, as driving is what i love to do. I look 10 seconds or more ahead at all times, and always leave myself an out. I drive to get away from traffic, because the traffic is where all the idiots hide. I prefer the open city street/highway cruising 5-10 over just looking for cops and minivans cutting me off. I have never gotten a ticket before in the past 3 years of driving, and I've dodged at least a hundred would be accidents (Tucson drivers absolutely suck). Thanks though for caring about my health, I just don't want to be seen as one of those idiots.

a long time ago i had a pretty bad accident where i rear ended someone doing about 100 mph, and they were doin 60. the damages were alot worse then yours. a few highlights was radiator leaning on the engine completely destroyed, the abs actuator was blown to shreads, some other seriose damage in the engine bay, and i had alot of expensive lights wired all around the front of the car(2 very powerful beams in the grill, and very cool foggers.. much better and bigger then the SE's) and thats excluding the fenders, bumper, hood, etc. fully repaired for 1400 except, coulda used some paint, but i was gettin low on cash

Good bet, my insurance adjustor said the airbag and fender were all she needed to consider it a total. Sounds like I'm gonna get screwed. I can expect a value of about 4k for the car, minues a 250 deductible and an estimated 700 buyback. I am gonna have to go after the other guy's insurance and hope they dont put a percentage of fault on me (AZ laws are dumb) and lessen any money they would give me. My insurance company may not even let me keep the car because the airbag is blown, and liability issues.
Dmon, this car is not driveable and would require a considerable amount of money for it to become driveable. The fender is pretty much on the tire, the hood is in no way latchable, the radiator is broken along with the fan shroud, and the tranny mount snapped. Do you want some parts from it or something? I'm goin to mexico this weekend, so this entire issue could take a few weeks for me to line up my options and figure out something to do (rebuild, transplant car, new car). If i sold it to you, i would STRIP it of any mod i could get off and replace them with the stock gxe parts.
If anyone knows of stock VEs with just a nice body for sale, let me know.

If no frame damage, u could get hood, fenders, core support.....from your local pick-a-part. I put my 91se back together for like 400.00 from another burgundyse max (missed the 159.00, running, low mileage engine by hours). A good thing about that deal was I still had a left over drivers side fender, which Im gonna need to put on this weekend due to a parking lot fender bender this past week.
