Leaking gas tank

I topped off my 93 SE with fuel yesterday (filled until it clicked off, then one more shot until it clicked off)

I drove about a mile then parked for 20 minutes. When I came back out to my car I notices that gas was leaking out. I crawled down there to take a look, and it was dripping down from around the driver's side axle.

I drove about a mile to my sister's house to use her husband's nice jack. When I got there and got out the jack I saw that the leak had stopped. there was a tiny little drip spot under the car. So I just left. It hasn't leaked any more.

Do you think there is some rust on my downspout or something? If that is what it is even called.

It has not leaked any more since then. Any ideas?

I have this same problem it only happens with a full tank and if i am running the car. It does seem to come from the top of the gas tank area. But i havent had the time to take it to the mechanic to check out the actual problem.

if you do a little searching you find plenty of info on this topic in the threads. but in a nut shell one of the two recalls on the 3rd gens is the down spout, it rust out sometimes... look in the past threads under the rust recalls and you should find plenty of info. good luck!

Mine did the same, only leaked when full - so I was careful not to fill it for a while.

There's a small overflow hose on the driver's side rear near the tire and fuel tank that needs replaced. Nissan wanted $30 and had to special order, AUTOQUEST cut me a piece of fuel grade line for $1.60. Simple fix. Oh BTW, learned about it myself on here, MAXIMA.ORG!

One of the problems is that the gas is stored below ground at about 55 degrees. Once it is pumped out of there and into your car it expands.

Yep, that be the thread that helped me! Thanks Mizeree X (couldn't find it again to say thanks after I fixed it).

If you expand the thread you'll see where MIZ posted a diagram with the hose on it, pretty simple stuff...Mine was cracked, hole was not real noticeable...
