rear strut removal problemo

hey all,
i'm swaping out my rear suspension on my 90se and ran into a problem getting the piston assembly out of the external casing (spring asm.) There is this final nut (gland nut casing?) that woln't budge. the manuals say take it off with a large adj wrench, and i've tried, lubed it etc. however it doesn't seem to have threads, only small dimples holding it on? am i supposed to bang this thing till it pops? bust out the hacksaw?
any sage advice or wisdom is wlecome

The big wrench will cost ya 10$.

Hit the edge tangentially with huge chisel/screwriver. It will lose form, but surrender. U should have new on in the box?

Use loctite when installing it back: i have often ahd a need to later tighten this... not so nice.

just as a follow up, what kind of "strut oil" do you use? (ie mid weight motor oil right?)

Pipe wrenches are your friends. And most any oil will do. It just helps transfer heat from the stock to the strut tube so it can dissipate easier.
