Broken Crank Shaft!

Greetings,
How about this one? The other day I was driving my 1991 Maxima up a hill. I just got over the crest of the hill - i heard a little "tink" and the car just quietly shut off. I towed it home the next morning and discovered that the car's crank shaft broke right at the pully. I took the bolt from the center of the pulley and the pulley itself off by hand (no tools)!
I had a friend/nissan mechanic look at it. He's trying to figure out why it broke (very strange for the crank shaft to break in that spot. There was a small chip on the pulley. Prior to this the car has 185 000 km's and ran like a clock - (except for one injector i had to replace recently).
I don't suppose anyone knows where i can find a new/good-used crank shaft for this engine? Or possible a good used engine???
I believe the valves are still OK - (lucky) that is why i think i would rather just change the crank shaft if i could get one reasonably priced.
Thanks,
Rob

personally I'd just swap in a new engine, seeing as how to replace the crankshaft you'll have to pull the engine anyways! you might be able to find a cheap low milage used engine for as low as $650-850 on either of these sites, good luck man!

It's probably not the crankshaft perse. What happended is that the pulley's key broke and damaged the slot on the crankshaft. Your crankshaft is not broken but damaged. I would see if the keyway is still in good condition(on the crank) Maybe you only need a new pulley key. But there is a good chance that the pulley's key wore the keyway out on the crank to a point where it's not fixable. Good luck.
