Shift selector removal?

Pulling the tranny on my 90 SE Auto. I've run into a little snag getting the shift selector cable connector off the tranny.

I pulled the little cotter pin and disconnected the cable from the lever, but there is a metal support brace about 3" back from the end which I can't get disconnected. So, the cable is still attached to the tranny and I'm stuck.

For now.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

are you pull the cable from the tranny side or the shifter side?

if you get it from the tranny side...all you have to do is pull the pin and pop the cable off the stud.

No, I had gotten that one -- I was trying to remove the cable from the keeper just before the end of the tranny side.
I eventually got it -- there is a clip that holds it and it was just frozen there. A little penetrating oil and some patience did the trick.

Thanks.

Yeah I know what you mean, that clip is a pain the first time you remove it. You have similar clips all over the car. Great that you got it!

Hey, Phatsta:
Thanks for your GREAT write-up on tranny removal.

It was very helpful to read through the job a few times before attempting it, and also to have a very good step-by-step guide. The transmission mount bolts were a PITA, but other than that just a time-consuming, straightforward job.
I managed to do it without removing the Y-Pipe, but since I have to fix my rear manifold studs it has to come off anyway.

Waiting on my replacement transmission, but putting a new one in should be easier than taking it out -- no frozen bolts to deal with!
