Shift selector removal?
Shift selector removal?
Pulling the tranny on my 90 SE Auto. I've run into a little snag getting the shift selector cable connector off the tranny.
I pulled the little cotter pin and disconnected the cable from the lever, but there is a metal support brace about 3" back from the end which I can't get disconnected. So, the cable is still attached to the tranny and I'm stuck.
For now.
Any advice gratefully accepted.

No, I had gotten that one -- I was trying to remove the cable from the keeper just before the end of the tranny side.
I eventually got it -- there is a clip that holds it and it was just frozen there. A little penetrating oil and some patience did the trick.
Thanks.

Hey, Phatsta:
Thanks for your GREAT write-up on tranny removal.

It was very helpful to read through the job a few times before attempting it, and also to have a very good step-by-step guide. The transmission mount bolts were a PITA, but other than that just a time-consuming, straightforward job.
I managed to do it without removing the Y-Pipe, but since I have to fix my rear manifold studs it has to come off anyway.
Waiting on my replacement transmission, but putting a new one in should be easier than taking it out -- no frozen bolts to deal with!
