My luck strikes again!

Last night I was coming home doing 65 as I didnt trust this car. (my truck has out of state title and its been a PITA to change to get real tags) And all of a sudden I hear a thumping, and then the front drivers wheel flies off ahead of me across 2 lanes, hits the dividing wall and stops I put it in neutral and let it coast to a stop. It was shaking and sparking all over, I finaly pull over and I look at it and it looks like 2 studs snapped and 3 stripped, but I saw this morning all 5 striped. Cant see my wheel. Im 3 exits up from home so my mom brings me home. This morning I took an extra tire and put it on there with 3 lugnuts, and drive home at 40mph. Sounded ok but Im never driving that car again, Im pulling the 5 speed and geting rid of it.

Such events are just my luck. I just want to get rid of my first max so i can start on my 5 speed swap. Then Im junking this car. I dont want any one else to go though something like this.

Im glad it happened at night with low traffic, and I was on a highway with a divider. If I wasnt some one would have possibly run over my tire and that wouldn't have been good. And its a good thing its this max, I dont give a crap about it....

Ive found the more and bigger happy events you have, life finds a way to screw you over to equal out any joy you have. You never know whats going to happen so make sure your wrenching is good and enjoy life. I know I do and I cant wait to get a 100% reliable car again.

As long as nobody got hurt, it's all good. I guess the moral of the story is "Don't drive junk cars"

lol, sorry i had to do that. i've had that happen to me too in another car. just change the hub and you'll be fine. the wheel probably wasnt on tight enough or was over tightened by an impact wrench. thats what happened to mine

 

I've had that experience also, in traffic on the long island expressway.

Yea Im never driving this car more then 100 feet now. Its my 3rd max, I bought it just for the tranny. So as soon as thats out its gone.

My 2ed max is the one getting the 5speedranny. Its in great shape, I cant wait to get that running.

Im betting they were over tightened, as they all striped. But oh well doesnt matter now. Im going to be insanely careful about my lug nuts now...

that's the second account of a wheel flying off a 4DSC that I've heard lately.

Listening to your story makes me wanna go out and check my tires to make sure they are tight. I had a friend who changed his wheel and forgot to tighten the lug nuts. When he was on the highway, he started hearing weird noises and pulled over to find his wheel about to come off. This is some scary stuff.

 

Id say its owner abuse. Last owner didnt do any matience to this car, and trashed it. Exaust it shot, many exaust studs, int dirty and trashed, sensors not working. And Ive been abusing it as well, I only stopped that the last 2 days I drove it. What was the other story like? Do they know the fault. Its say its just a rare fraction of us thats getting it and its more due to mechanic inability then design or flaws. As if it were flaws it'd be happening more often...
