I don't drive insanely fast or accelerate all that quickly and the car has been well taken care. How could some simple mods like a CAI, a Y-pipe, and VB upgrade from Don in Texas hurt the stability of my car? I assume the big risk with mods is the temptation to abuse the car. Are there any other reasons not to mod the car? I want the mods more to satisfy my mod hunger than to go fast. I just want something to set me apart from other cars while giving me some added performance.

Go for it. Mods that improve breathing etc. generally free up power that was already there but wasted. The VB will actually increase the longetivity of your auto as well. What you would want to be cautious about is power adders like nitrous. If you want to run a 50 shot, I would at least do a compression/leakdown test to let you know where your engine is. Check the condition of your oil and tranny fluid often. Modding the car will not make it fall apart any more so than now, if your tranny is on the way out, it will prob go out sometime regardless of simple mods you would do to it. I have 156K on my car and I take it to the track often.

NOS kinda scares me and I definately don't need that much power, so I think I'm gonna go ahead and get a CAI, Y-pipe, and the VB mod sometime in the next year. My FSTB is in the mail and I'm getting a tranny cooler tonight. My only other plans for the car before an engine or tranny rebuild would be Eibach springs and Tokico struts. After the rebuild, then it's time for some fun. Muahahahahaha. Thanks for all of the input.

Try 190k miles....

Mine had 190k miles when I started moding it. A car is never too old to mod especially when it comes to suspension and braking or exterior/interior. As for engine performance my suggestion is just do the JWT ECU, your choice of cold air intake (PR or WSP), your choice of Y pipe (cattman or WSP), then get a custom b pipe made (2.5in from the cat to the stock muffler). I don't suggest getting an aftermarket muffler because they don't have much noticeable gains but add so much noise. Before you start modding goto the track and dyno to get some baseline numbers. To find the nearest dyno go here http://www.dynojet.com/lauto.shtml.

Thanks for the link. That would prolly be the best thing to do. I might wait until after I get my car tuned up to see how it runs when it's in tip-top shape.

maxes are built for modding, @130,000 miles the engine is just about run in!
i suggest suspension and brake mods first, then work that engine.
