Growl...so replace....repair...hmmm...

I have a 94 GXE and the auto tranny has been rebuilt once...

Yesterday i put the car into reverse backed up 5 yards and heard ahuge thud, and my car revved instead of backed up.

So now my reverse doesn't work at all. I'm not sure if my car will go into 2nd. My conlcusion: crap.

should i go with a repair [if worth it] or replacment? Also, is it feasible to get a manual tranny? what about cost of these things?

If anyone has any ideas about pricing or anything else for that matter, please let me know. I'm so sad about the car right now. Arg.

Thanks again, Kev

are you still within the rebuilder's warranty period? i don't think you should be charged thousands of dollars for a rebuild if you aren't going to get sufficient mileage out of it before it breaks again.

Agreed , 5 speed swap would be the best Idea but from what i heard they dont have manual trannys in the 94 " model" GXEs but since everything fits from a 93 you could just get a 93 SE manual tranny and swap it in there for cheap or get some nice aftermarket one or somethin i dunno up to you. there is a HUGE time difference in those 0-60 I read the 94 SE Maxima does 0-60 in around 6.6 seconds with a stick and a 15.7 1/4 mile. versus the auto version 8.8 0-60 and 16.7 by stock standards in the 1/4 thats a huge difference in my opinion. 1 second faster in the 1/4 and allmost 2 seconds faster 0-60. anyways thats my 2 cents. I have a 94 GXE as well btw GO VG !

those #s are comparing a VG auto to a VE manual. so don't expect to gain 1 second by doing the trans swap.
also if you run the 92-94 trans you'll need the axles and hubs too. unless you want to frankenstein the axles and worry later when they break and you can't buy one in a parts store anymore
