Concerned About my Perfomance

Alright here's whats going on. I have a friend with a 1988 Chevy Beretta GT it has 125 hp/160 tq and its about 2800lbs plus driver. We all went cruising at night and doing some light to light racing and on a 40mph roll.

He was able to pull on me from 0 and on a 40mph roll. He did 17.8 on 1/4 if that helps oh and he has 100k miles

On the other hand I have a 1993 Maxima GXE 160hp/185tq and I think car weighs 3000/3100lbs I have 141k miles. Just bought the car last week and got it yesterday from shop. Got new
Timing belt
drive belts
Thermostat
Waterpump
Tuneup (air filter, spark plugs, cap rotor and some other stuff dont remember)
Oil change
MAF Sensor

Yet after all that he's pulling on me. What could be wrong with my car i know the mileage cant affect THAT bad. Dont get me wrong the car pulls like crazy but I feel that I should be able to take on this like easily.

What do you guys think is wrong or 'mistuned' with my maxipad?

he has at least 300#, maybe 400# and two doors less than you. that more than makes up for hp difference. by the way, hp is no statistic to compare who would pull away in a street race. even after 'tuning up' your motor, it is still detuned. replace with a lightened flywheel and hiflo ypipe, then you will see how well your motor can be tuned. although, 17.8 is pretty damn slo, maybe he has a turtle 60sec time...

Yea but dude, I know there's people here with stock GXEs that did better 1/4 than that. also forgot to mention my car is idling kinda weird. I filled my tank ($43/13.xx gallons) and drove only 110 miles and its about halfway(yes hard driving), not stable in one spot its kinda low and acts like its gonna turn off. Dont know if that helps with anything but I still think it should be able to take on it stock without the need of performance tuning. I'm just listing the HP/TQ for both cars as comparison but I never directly said it was because of HP, you were the one that mentioned the HP and not the torque. I believe torque is what helps pull on launch (and/or on roll too) correct me if I"M wrong

There's a 35HP difference 25 lb ft torque diff. and about 300 LB difference in weight. just thought I'd highlight that..

- U dont mention ign wires: build real wires. --->p.12
- plugs NGK? If *bosch*, youre lucky to drive...
- at 141k Knock Sensor has been dead for long = ign always retarded. --->p.9
- want more air in? --->p2.

You shoulda been able to take him. Something is definatly wrong. You car is idling weird and eating gas like a super car, and you really think your running the way you should be? A good VG auto should be able to do high 16's. You should go troubleshoot the problem and teach that Beretta what it means to have a 3.0

That I figure by the less HP/TQ compared to the SE and from the smooth wobbly ride. But I do strongly believe it should be able to take on a stock beretta. Without me needing more air in or top of the line sparkplugs. I mean yea I will be getting better parts in later but for now I think something is wrong. my friend with the beretta says it must be some sensor that isnt doing its job or something.

You and I and thousands others have 160 hp sohc engines. Don't worry about it too much. Its no Rustang 5.0 by any chance.

Probably not, but I had my share of victories with it over cars similar to the Beretta. VG ain't no slouch in the land of the slow, I'll tell ya that much.

So I decided to clean up my IACV but gave up when we (my friend helped) couldn't take off screws, so lazy..plus they would've stripped, so just left it alone. Any ideas on what it could be thats causing weird idling?
