tie rod question?

Is it possible to replace just the bushing/grease boot on the outer tie rod end?

The reason I ask is that I just tore mine and I dont want to replace the whoe tie rod end if possible...

if they dont seel these rubber boots specifically, would there be some generic/equivalent boot that might fit and do the job?

thanks

If they are original = just replace

Internetautomar has some for a very good price.

I know what you mean, but I dont want to mess with the alignment and do all this extra work if its just a rubber boot. How do tie rods break down? I would think it would be with a broken boot and then it seizes, so what benefit do I get from replacing something like a tie rod end...

Unfortunately I would absolutely love to order from internetautomart , but being in canada shipping and duties would raise the price too much.

thanks jeff... Im not being cheap.. prefer the term frugal : )

Well think about how a tie rod works. Then think about what the tie rod is connected to and what it's function is.

There must be a local store that has these things for cheap.

But I don't think there is replacement boots for these. As the price of these things are so very low anyway. If you measure very carefully, you could probably get away with no alignment.

Having just replaced the tie rod ends myself, I can say that internetautomart has the best price, I paid around 35 each for mine (I was in a hurry to get it done, so I had to buy local.) When I replaced mine, I think the one that was on there is the original one, and no, it did not seized up, it would still move freely, but would not hold an alignment. I also second that there is no replacement boots for these, as I did try to go that route also.

Being frugal with front end parts like a tie rod end is not a smart thing to do...If $$ are a problem then just buy the tie rod locally and put it on yourself....There is a nut at the end of the T/R,loosen the nut and back it off about 1/2 inch ...Get some white out and mark where the tie rod is on the threads...Assuming you already know how take the T/R off....Then just screw the new T/R on up to the point where the old one was marked by the white out, tighten up the nut that holds it in place.....

Well I bought some from Brian and never put them on. If I still have them, I can sell them to you and probably put a low value for shipment into Canada.

dont want to start a new thread about similar topic, so what do you guys think should be replaced after 100k. My car just hit 100k, and I wanna change a bunch of suspension stuff before I get new tires and alignment.
So far heres my list:
Outer Tie rod ends
Inner tie rod ends
New control arms w/bushings
Ball Joints
Eibachs, or 92se springs. I have both in my garage, but I dont really wanna make the car stiff and have a bumpy noisy ride. I have H&Rs on my 89 SE 5sp for that..

For all of the above parts (excluding springs), does it really matter what aftermarket brand I get?? Any recommended brands?? I heard Moog is good for Ball Joints..Does it really matter??

I just installed KYB struts, and 2 axles about 10k ago. so far they are pretty good. This is on my 90 GXE daily driver. Just want to keep it reliable, and maintain a smooth ride.
