noise/idle

Ive got a 92 se with 130,000 miles and recently i thought the ticking noise under my hood was coming from the VTC's so i grounded them. The ticking noise is still there, although now im begining to believe that the noise is lifter's (which i believe is a pretty common problem in cars older cars). Im not sure because i dont know how exacly VTC ticking sounds or lifter noise any way i was wondering what to do to quite the lifters is there any simple fix(ive heard putting tranny fluid into the oil will quiet the lifters but its sounds suspect to me)? Im planning on selling the car before winter and want to have things sounding good! Also on top of the noise another problem i have it that after the car has been running for, say over 10 minutes when i pull up to a stop sign or light (just whenever i push in the clutch) and let the car idle it dies? Again something that id like to fix before selling. Any advice or help is appriciated.

See http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/1 ...theres IACV cleanup -page. (Its location differs in VE...)

New Oil, cleanup, right filter (see stickies) are the cheap ones. Need Lifter change if no help found.

I am just guessing, but I think your VTCs are shot. When you ground ones that are flucked, they still clack.

Mine were like that and when I grounded them, my idle went to crap, too. Mostly it would drop way down and sometimes the car would die, especially when I pushed the clutch in at a light or a stop sign.

If you stop grounding them, I would imagine your idle would get better. I don't think your VTCs will get better unless you replace them.

Like I said, this is just a guess.

I think this cleaning might help with my problem as well.

Thanks!

How about adjusting the idle speed? Will that help?

I didn't try that, but I suppose you could try. I just put the VTCs back the way they were (not grounded) and the idle was fine. I just had to live with a lot more ticking.

Now I have a JDM engine and it still ticks some when it is cold.
