wow. please check the stickies before shoting q's. you'll find you can answer most of them without needing to ask. the 300zx has a vg block, so it's not a dohc. the 300zx also did not have a transverse mount engine, so the intake is designed and located an entirely different way than a 93 se maxima.

I had the problem with the adapter thing too, after striking out with all my local shops I was real hesitant to spend money on an ebay one that I'd have a hard time returning.

Also trying to just get that first pipe from the CAI to get rid of the accordian piping seems impossible. I don't see why you can't use a 4th gen one and plug that little hose stub, but again, I hate to waste money.

I used the whole intake assy. from nopi. The cone and adapter. Worked perfectly, just had to get longer bolts.

Just modify the flange inside your airbox. Have that trimmed down, and get shorter bolts.

The two rivet holes were the worst (as foam strip is between batt) as it allows noise on top, pluggEd. At 3k rpm mama complains but doesnt matter... I suppose noise is lots less than cone filter. Now I have a foam dampener also inside box, to reduce mech amplifier -effect.

The tube before box is worst choke. Then second is the 70mm stock pipe end crimp, see pic. Also TB seals were originally misplaced... plenum 'direct from mold', grinded worst of them off and grinded the mid wall edge. I calculated that intake the area was boosted 20%, 200% at the box. That has a big effect. After mods 0-60 was reduced to near 8s from the stock 9s. Thats not all mods, theres smtg else towards the valves. Now the box is 'semi CAI'; low rpm gets most (?) air from the stock pipe. I would if I could add rubber 'valves' on the holes, opening when air sucks (only full throttle) and could reduce noise, but why? Maybe for cold air sake...

IMpressions: Now 0-60 is definitely below 8s, near somewhere 7.5s... hand clocked time. Time is good enough in our volvo -state (No tracks around). I have been thinking to buy one of those cheap compluter worm boxes for more accurate readings, but dont know whattobuy... has to be cheap.

Another impression: drillin is dirt cheap.

But its diameter is the same as MAF, no? The most choked point defines total flow...

Yes, we all know that simple mod can take 0.5 sec off everyone's 0-60 time. That hp increase must be in the order of 30hp in order to do that.

Yes Thank you sir. We need all glob_all warmup air here we can get... Maybe this is laziness toward CAI illusion. What my horses want when I whip 'em, is extra gasp on the road, and all they suck is Cold.

I think its sum of all, few explained on my CD site. Ign is one fraction factor. (Take a calliper rule and walk through all intake, measure and mod/cut ALL choking areas off.) Anyways, stock VG intake is really designed to be restrictive and defined to choke it below the sport segment VE : marketing jippo. What I mean, there seems to be 'more easy sleepin horses' to be trimmed out of VG than VE. (wannabe VE, just watchin experience)

Now after A/T oil change, launch is problematic (to get under 8s.) : time passes by sittin on the ol spinnin cartwheels... Oh boy, this becomes addictive. Anyways, no use buying better tires because soon snow covers all the fun, then my 1.3L Opel -85 is THE king. (want video of the fuming bmw drivers?

wsp still makes hai kits for vg motors, 50% sure about cai for a vg though. if you can get ahold of place racing, let everybody else know. you'll be the first in forever.
