Rear KYB struts fluid

Hi Guys,
I am replacing the rear struts on my max with a set of KYB cartridges( from internetautomart.com of couse). Should I save and reuse the fluid from the old strut housing. I rather put in new fluid but what kind of fluid is this??
Please help.

About 'any thin' but water. Typically oil to conduct heat out. (Many shops dont bother and then rear shocks vanish in hard drive: I dont let em'...)

yup, what he said. any oil should work. it's just used to conduct heat away from the cartridge.
I'd have no problem reusing the old fluid..

Thanks guys. It is 10W40 motor oil then. $90 for a pair + shipping from internetautomart is a great buy and I wan to get the right stuff dor it.

P.S. Speaking of motor oil, my brother in law use the car for 8 years and put over 160K miles on it with one service oil change. I resurect (sp?) it and the car is running great now with over 200K on it. Man... this car last...

We should make one of these threads sticky one day. Something titled 'what do I fill up rear struts with?' and single response: Read the writeup at http://www.4dsc.com/articles/suspens...ico/rear.shtml and reuse the old oil or use thin machine oil. How about that?
