Sputtering and vibrations

Hi, My Maxima '91 with 92K miles started developing occasional sputtering and low vibration. The symptoms have increased since I observed this first in July. After my 90K miles service I thought the symptoms disappeared completely but it is still there!

Also, the gas mileage has been deteriorating -- 12 gallons fetching only 190 miles (citi) or so. But in highway it gives me 290 miles.

Can anyone suggest the possible cause of this? Please let me know if you need additional information. Appreciate your input before I take it for servicing!!

Thanks

Typical first problem is plugs, cap, wiring. My second was TPS (cold), then oxidized connectors & groundings like cam pos sensor gnd in the distributor, pages: 6,10,12,14.

Hi,
Today, I gave my car for servicing and they diagnozed that my #3 and #5 injectors are not showing any voltage at all :-(

But when I looked at the ECU codes all I saw was 5 red and 5 greens. Is it because my Maxima is 1991 year?

And does this justify the low mileage I have been experiencing?

Please post your comments....Thanks in advance!

Smbdy get the hat, start passing along. Send it to me after VE-mon€u is pouring over from tHat Hat.

Camera batteries have been loaded already for writing new VE FSM... Maybe for VQ also?

mukundan:

"they diagnozed that my #3 and #5 injectors are not showing any voltage at all :-("
- they desperately need $$$ to pay their rent?
- take screwdriver, place it on each injector, ear on handle. Listen. If all injectors make the same noise, they do get their voltage, wirings about ok, they do work mechanically. (still no warranty that they do work properly)
- However, the day comes to swap them.
- Bad KS and/or O2 will cause bad mileage. Dragging brakes...?

Our BDII ECU is reliable: It will show error codes ONLY in the junkyard... Take one injector wire out, view for ECU: is it still happy55??

OK Wiking! I learned my lesson! I need to take out that screwdriver and start the investigation. Do you have any website links on Fuel Injector replacement? The tools needed, DO's and DONT's etc.
Thanks!

i had sputtering problems with my '90. the problem was with the #1 injector...got it replaced and 3 months later it started again. instead of changing them out as they go out i changed them all. to save some $ i bought used ones from a salvage yard and had it cleaned and mapped.car runs excellent.

parts i bought

plenum gasket
upper intake manifold gasket
o rings (2 per injector)
fuel filter
carb cleaner (clean out air plenum while it was out)

1. Havin problematic x, replacing y will NOT hlp.

2. Havin problematic y, replacing y will hlp. YESS, do it!

1 + 2 = Imperative FOR YOU is to differentiate between x & y; no amount of work, parts, pills & bill$ will NOT hlp if diagnosis is wrong. Repairing x&y is triple costly.

Go to a doc, in clinic or cars-hop. Definitely pills & diags will be sub$cribed. They will surely hlp...to Secure next 5$ promo -caribbeancruise for the doc. Hangin scope hlps.
Imperative FOR YOU is to differentiate between caribbean & scope ...pill$???

When goin to a 'doc', ALWAYS take second opinion.

So far 3 injectors have gone bad in my car. 3 more to go!! Don't know how soon. Any ideas how to keep the injectors clean?
Premium gas? Does Ethanol play some role in this fouling of injectors?

From what I heard, none of the above seems to be the answer!

I am gonna get my Fuel Injector degree soon

I had the same prob with my 90 a year ago after i put new plat plugs, and wires in. I replaced the rotor and cap and the prob went away. Pop your cap off and scrape the tip of the rotor clean with a flat head or something. If it works then you just need a new rotor.......

Let me try to differentiate the 2 problems I had with similar symptoms:
1. Starting problem and dying (and the shaking was more violent)... noticed after I parked the car out in the rain overnight -- battery, rotors & cap.
2. Sputtering (listen to the exhaust - you will surely notice it) and bad mileage -- fuel-injectors
