VE Shudders/dies at any speed

Heres a rundown:

At idle the RPMs will drop suddenly to next to nothing and sometimes it recovers, sometimes it dies. Easily restarted.

Accelerating, occasional hesitation, sometimes it dies, sometimes I can just accelerate out of it.

Cruising (50-80mph), alternating power and none. Really wierd feeling for 1 second (literally) i lose all power, rpms stay the same, but start decreasing, then the next second it's normal, then it's no power again, then normal... It'll do this over and over until I downshift and accelerate a bit and go back to 5th gear. Sometimes it just straight up dies going highway speeds. No warning, no sputtering, just all of a sudden, it shuts off. Sometimes I can downshift and drop the clutch... sometimes I have to pull over and stop the car, then restart.

It's the the almost perfectly timed go/nogo that has me stumped. The car's been doing this to me for a little while now but it was really bad today (it was also really cold today...) and I'm planning a series of 300 mile trips for the next few months.

Suggestions are very much encouraged and always welcomed. Thanks.

Not really what I wanted to hear... When you say MAF... do you mean NEW maf or clean maf?

I would clean the maf sensor with some electrical contact cleaner first...

or check the connectors on the injectors it may have grime build up inside if them and may have bad contact

How old are your plugs in terms of mileage?

I've got some used coils.
they're likely the culprit, it's happened to chris (I think) and a few others. they speced out good, looked good, didn't work good

I had this EXACT problem....solution-------> MAF, replace it. I got one from a junkyard for $40. But I have to return it and get them to get me anohter, so get a warranty if you go to a yard, or buy it from a member that KNOWS it was working.

Yeah, it could be MAF or coil packs. Mine was stalling out like you are describing, especially on heavy acceleration. I would step on the gas and it would just do nothing, then die, then jump right back up to speed.

It was one of my coil packs causing all of the problems. I just replaced all six and never had it happen again.

I had also swapped in a good MAF and that wasn't the problem, but some other guys have seen this happen. I also read that it could be the cam position sensor, but have not had this happen myself.

I had the same problem. New coil, change maf still did not work. What fix the problem was replacing the O2 sensor.

I had a problem similar to that for like 2 months. My car would turn off all of a sudden, have no power going up hills. It's probably an injector. Pull the plugs and see if you have any that are black. Mine was the middle one in the back so my mechanic had to take off the upper intake manifold to get to it. I replaced all six with a set on the rail front and rear that I bought here from another .orger. Anyways, check your plugs and while our at it change them. I bought some NGKs from Advance for the VE for 1.68 I think they are called V-power. I like them with the new plugs and Changed injectors my car is Better. Not perfect yet, I'm working on it slowly.

I put new NGK BKR5E-11 V-Powers in 2 weeks ago and threw some electrical tape on 2 cracked coil packs. I know, i know... I need to replace the coil packs. It still hesitates on me every once in a while now, but not nearly as bad as it used to. I get it once about every 500 miles now rather than 5 times in a mile like before.

I shot some electrial contact cleaner at my maf wires when i pulled it off to clean the throttle body the same day I did the plugs, so i can't say doing one thing fixed it but it's defiantely better now.

I'm probably going to Change out my coil packs too. I tested the resistance on mine and got 1.4 OHM the manual says .8 ohm autozone says 1.0 ohm is good.
So I guess mine are bad. Do you know where I can get some new ones for less than what internetautomar is selling them for.

Have you tested the resistance on them and how many miles did the car have that you took them off.

I have some extra one that aren't cracked. Let me know which ones you have that are cracked (front or back). I'm willing to let them go cheap.
