Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor
Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor
Hey guys, I just got me another Max a month ago. A 92 SE Auto. She's cutting off on me, while driving, and studders sometimes. Then other times she rides like a champ. Have anyone else had this problem. When I say she cut's off I mean I can be on the Freeway, and the I'll be stepping on the Gas anf the RPM needle would just hit da floor. Or when I try to floor it, it'll feel like it's choking sometimes cutting off???
A lot of people, including myself, solved this problem by replacing faulty coil packs.
They are fairly expensive, about $60 each if you get a good deal on new ones.
On mine, one of the rear ones was bad. When I would accelerate, it would do the same thing you are describing.
If you donate $20 to use the search function (or is it free now?) there are a lot of threads about this problem. Search for the words "stalling" or "bucking" in the 3rd gen section.

I fixed the same problem by shooting some electronics cleaner at my MAF and replacing plugs/electrical taping some coil packs. OK, the problem's not "fixed", but it's much better than it was. No cutting off, a little hesitation now and then.
I'm pretty sure it's because I'm losing spark through a cracked coil pack. Might want to take your out and give them a once over.

Faulty Crank Sensor!!! I tell you one thing, these guys on here no what they are talking about, because when I told my man to check the Crank Sensor, and the Cam Sensor sure enough that's what it was, the Crank Sensor. I also replaced the fuel filter, and installed the K&N Air Cone filter. But I ran across my 5 speed, and I had to jump on it!!
