Heating Problems/aceleration

hey guys i have a 92 gxe maxima i jsut recieved it a little bit ago, my car is over heating badly i checked the coolant and then checked the hoses to see if one of those is going bad or if i have a problem, what do you think it is? do you think it is the thermastat
also my car will start and runs but when i try to push the gas the car seems to die or it will surge and then a loud bang will come from the engine. But right now i don't have the MAS hooked up do you think that would effect the throtel body and maybe my car is getting to much air? i have o idea maybe bad gas? i don;t have a clue, i though it might be the fuel pump or fuel injectors but the car can start and idel fine so i am not sure?
please help me with my car Dan

If you don't have a MAF sensor the car shouldn't go over 2500 RPM

definitely gotta have a MAF.. don't expect to be able to drive it without one.. very important part to the engine.
