I had nothing to do with my old VE engine that I took out of my car (it was blown when I bought the car), it was just sittin in the garage on my engine stand takin up room......so I figured...eh what the hay...Ill bring it into class and rip it apart for fun and do some measurements for my grade rather than use an already butchered shop engine.
So, Im breakin stuff down, I have the heads off and I turn it over on the stand and take off the oil pan as well........I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the VE has a forged steel crankshaft
.........I confirmed it with my professor too.........
I then proceeded to take the pistons and rods out and was even more pleasantly surprised to find that it has Forged steel rods as well....double
.......man this VE is friggin built........Nissan definitely knows how to build engines
....
Now, some of you might be like yeah nice discovery captain obvious, but I didnt know all that much about these bottom ends until recently...so this is all a neat lesson for me......
Well anywho, thats all I needed to say haha.....just felt I should share my cool experience with the crowd......
PS...if anybody needs replacement bottom end parts (ie. crank or rods, and I might even have the drivers side head Ill be puttin back together after Im done with the measurements and cleaning and all) I can help you out, cause Ill have no need for them when Im done with the class.....

Cool. Not that many guys here ever tear into their engines. You will note that the heads are well designed and have nicely designed intake/exhaust ports. Alot of the sealing surfaces feature more modern type gaskets, ie.. channels for sealant vs actual gaskets. And alot of the gaskets are 3 pc units vs just one thick gasket material. Fairly modern engine assembly for a 1992 design.

Yeah man...I did notice that. Another thing too is that I was thinkin of porting the intakes to gasket match them for the new engine I plan on getting, but I noticed that they were pretty well matched already......there wasnt much for me to take off if I wanted to....
