hey guys. lost my crush rings for my y-pipe. local place cant get em for 4 days.

bck when my brother drove his 86 isuzu impulse he used sheets of asbestos to make gaskets for his exhaust. it worked perfectly for him. do you guys think i could just make some gaskets for the y? the warpspeed pipe doesnt have the little groove thing for the crush rings anyways so i dunno.

That's some nasty stuff to just play around with like that. I'd wait for it to come in.

Mucking around with asbestos, whether you're properly protected or not, is not worth it. Especially if it's just a 4 day wait to get a fix that won't affect your long term health.

if you were gonan do a temp. fix for a re days, just bolt the pipe up to the header pipe.... may be a tad loud

actually all it takes is one fiber of asbestos to ruin your lungs... just takes a couple of decades. Later on down the road when you're having lung problem, just think back to this day.

not only what you breathed in when you were cutting it, but whatever got on your clothes, and any other fabric nearby. bigtime health hazard. why do you think that 90% of the time, it is not used anymore?

Yeah we have strict rules when we do clutch and brake jobs at my shop. Plus you might have noticed recent law firm ads for those who have had cancer, or family members who got it from loved one's clothing.

That's because everything IN california causes cancer... haven't they quite figured that out? Anything will cause cancer inside those borders. For the rest of the real world, it's the nasty $hit that causes it

maybe it is not that we are too paranoid or overly cautious. Maybe it is that we are prepared enough to find out that certain things do cause cancer. Maybe the rest of the country has already received irreversable effects of those substances that have clouded their judgement?

Or maybe it's nature performing Natural Selection when we keep playing god. Who knows, we all die in the end, till then I'm going to mod the crap out of my Maxima.

I've managed buildings that have had remodels that included abestos abatement. That is not good stuff and definitely not worth messing around with imho.

I usually use copper rtv, but semen works well too.

asbestos is found in common brake pads (unless ceramic) and gaskets. probably safer to buy it than try to manufacture it...since the breaking of the asbestos is what causes the particles to get in your lungs. i know im gonna a lot more careful next time i change my rear brakes.

a single exposure to asbestos is like having your head xrayed; won't hurt you unless you smoke the stuff or something.

if only it was limited to just that. All it takes is a single exposure and around 10-30 years. People have gotten cancer just from their loved ones coming home with it on their clothes.

Abestos is used in clutches IIRC.

Yeah, that's what they say. We recently had a enviromental inspection come through and they tested our used brake pads and clutches. Take a small wild guess as to what they found. And about 50% of the items tested were purchases within the last 5 years.

Stupid way to make the point. Loved ones coming home with it on their clothes usually go home with it on them every time they come home (from work, for example), meaning the they have multiple exposures. He's talking about one exposure...which could lead to problems, but most likely will not.

I get training on this $hit every year, and it's something they don't play around with. They give us all the facts, training, and all the equipment necessary to deal with it. I hate to say it, but I have my fore father veterans to thank for it. The military is trying to save itself more money.

Where the hell did you even get a sheet of asbestos? Don't you have to have a license to buy that ****? Anyway gasket from dealer = better than inhaling asbestos.

Donut gaskets from dealer = in stock and cheaper vs parts stores.

I heard you can use depleted Uranium rods as aftermarket piston rods, go for it, dude!!! You gain about 20hp at the crank!!!!

Slimers Copper RTV was the second best idea if no dealership, parts store, or exhaust shop had the gasket or something similiar that would suffice. I seal exhaust gaskets with Copper RTV anyway
