kind of struck in reverse ???

Hi All,
I have a 93 Maxima SE with 95K miles on it. Has been problem free for last many months.

Last week once in a while, when put the automatic in reverse there seems to resistance in moving. It doesn't happen always and when it happens I accelerate further and it moves. No problems in drive what so ever.

Today the problem showed up again in a big way. It was not budging at all when put car in reverse and accelerate. There seems to be load groaning sound coming from the rear. Accelerate further and put in drive and it moves smoothly.

Then I came home and tried putting in reverse again. Now no problem.
By the way when I park the car, I use parking brake.

Any idea..any one?

I am guessing some thing to do with rear brake disk or pads.

Your rear brake calipers are most likely seized up....

I would just replace the calipers with new ones...

easiest way to check if its your rear calipers seized is to drive the car. put car in reverse, if it works fine then pop up your ebrake like how you normally would. put it back down and try reverse again. also if your caliper in the back seizes and causes your car to not be able to move, that would have to mean that the piston is out and your brake fluid level in master cylinder is lower than normal.

you could jack up the car and see how easy the rear tires spin.....that will tell you if your caliper is stuck too

doesn't happen often..!!

As you suggested I had checked my car last time. Rear wheels were spinning freely and I did some search on the internet. I found that it could be becos of Emergency brakes since the temperature is cold here.
So I thought it was due to Emergency brakes and stopped using them. So no problems till today.
Today the problem comes back again....
The car was running fine yeasterday and I had parked it.
Today morning when I put in reverse it won't budge... looks like some thing is really holding up..?

As you suggested it might be seizing caliper. Now if jack up and remove the tire will I be able remove the calipher...? Can I disengage with Hammer...

I have a used calipher. Will that work..? Could any thing other than calipher be a problem in this case ?
